So I saw this on YouTube last night. It's a shootout at a gas station between some thugs. Looks like they are carying lightly concealed carbines.

I will be the first to admit that I have generally not carried what I would consider as adequate firepower to deal with a situation like this. I have generally carried handguns with single stack magazines or revolvers. Multiple people armed with carbines is just not a scenario I plan for (except when I lived on the Mexican border). Is this the kind of scenario you personally prepare to deal with on a daily basis?

Direct result of the public allowing this kind of behavior. The one "up side" is the scum are trying to kill each other. Of course the dangerous part is none of them know how to use the weapons and they do not care where all those rounds end up.

Regardless of what platform you are carrying, you will have the advantage if you keep your pants pulled up.

Everyday day carry is very dependent on where you live and where you go.
This will make for different options for folks.

I am comfortable with my 1911 and two spare magazines.
This works for me and my situation.
However....
For others , my combination is not going to work .

Situational awareness , avoidance , and having a plan as well as a flexible thinking / adaptable mindset. in regards to that plan...
In addition to..the willingness to do what is necessary to survive are all important , and often over looked.

Providing you are not the target, drawing your sidearm is optional. Going small behind cover can be your best friend. Choose your battles/opportunities.

Out and about your reasonable options may be limiting, but having a fallback is certainly adviseable. IE., A more capable firearm convenient within your vehicle or vicinity.

I have to agree with Andy. "Situational awareness , avoidance , and having a plan as well as a flexible thinking / adaptable mindset. in regards to that plan..." is the most critical element commonly ignored tramping through day to day life. Situations typically evolve without notice and when you least expect it.... unless you DO.

Sounds like a case of old man butt syndrome(?)

My usual EDC is is a S&W model 29 on my hip and a Marlin 1894 in 44 Magnum in a saddle scabbard, both with only the ammo they have on board. More than sufficient for any situations that might crop up around the ranch, especially considering the fact that the vast majority of my employees are also carrying. If I have to travel into civilization, it's my model 29 as primary, and a compact 1911 with 2 spare mags as a backup.

I remember grabbing a loaded 8 round 1911 magazine then a 30 round AR mag, then coming to the realization that they both weighed about the same.

A carbine is hard to beat if it's a rifle round, otherwise it's just a longer sight radius, a bit more velocity, and lots of rounds.

Yes, I carry 44rds, but I'd rather not be facing two thugs with carbines (if they can shoot; these jokers look like spray and pray).

I think the issue is that they couldn't get that solid iscoselese with their choice of footwear.

Don't get me wrong, I love my house shoes, just don't go shooting wearing them.

I agree. This was clearly a shootout between two rival groups. In such a situation, I would simply seek cover and breaking contact.
