That is a nice 1911 for sure.

That is the story behind the knife? Is it a Randall?
Thank you...I think of my dad every time I use it .

The knife...
It is a Blackjack Model 5.
I bought on leave , right after Basic... and carried it as a field knife and on every combat deployment I had.
It has been "around" ...and lots of memories with this knife..some good...some bad...
Nowadays it gets used as a camping and hunting knife.

My Colt Series '70 Government Model in .45 ACP.
First handgun I shot when I was kid....Dad gave it to me ....lots memories with this pistol.
I shoot it well...I shoot it often.
I don't change out my carry...since I have what works for me.
Andy
I have the S&W 39 that I started shooting at 4 but I have so many memories of it that I couldn't bring myself to carry it.

My carries are all guns that I won't cry if they are in evidence or wherever for awhile.

Edit: My grandfather taught me to shoot and it is so ingrained in my childhood that every time I shoot I think of him.

The one below...was given to me on my 13th birthday , by my dad.
Lots of game has been taken with this revolver....and many a tin can / beer can ventilated....:D

Yeah, that looks super fun to shoot!

Always one in the pipe. Carrying with an empty chamber is dumb. There is a reason it's called a deadman's gun.
+1 on this. A person will rarely be in an "ideal" position if they have to draw. Bad guys like to pick people who are distracted or burdened in a way that will hinder effective defense - hands full of groceries, wrangling children, getting into/out of vehicles, talking on the phone, etc.

It's easy for someone to think "oh, I'll just drop my groceries" or whatever, but reality is you have to process what is happening and make the conscious decision to break that ingrained mental conditioning of "dropping groceries is bad" and then actually do it in the course of executing your draw... That's a lot to process and do, all the while the bad guy is already committed to taking action against you.

As a parent it's even more a challenge because kids behaviors can be unpredictable, and you don't know if the moment you have to defend yourself is when you're carrying your sleeping infant, or trying to put your toddler into the car seat, or any number of other scenarios.

So... TLDR - assume you won't have the chance to rack the slide.

It's the equivalent of driving without a seatbelt thinking you'll have enough time to put it on before getting into an accident. It's a joke.

Right. I think it was the late James Yeager who commented something like no legitimate law enforcement or special forces unit in the entire world carries a gun with an empty chamber. Regarding empty chamber Israeli carry he added, "That doesn't make it right."

CA makes me list [ by serial#] every carry gun on the permit. So with 4 spaces I always had 4 on my list. Then they made me register any gun on the CCW so that droped the number to 2.
I pocket carry everyday and everywhere, so a small revolver is what I carry most often. I also have a compact semi auto for days when that is a better choice. DR

I had five that I tried to rotate through and found myself only packing one mainly. Plus having to qualify with all five got to be a pain. I currently keep two in rotation with one carried 95% of the time and the other 5% as it is just a backup and woods gun because of its size.

I have changed jobs recently and had to modify my carry gun to fit the new job. My big custom grips had to go away and the tiny little grips are back on it. The seat in the truck is not shaped right to accept a carry gun very well. None of the other four guns I have for carry would work in the truck either.

I've switched up my every day carry pistol in preparation for the ten round mag capacity limit. If it survives the courts, I thought I should be ready for it. I decided that ten rounds of 9mm in a P30L was a bit too much pistol for the capability. I then decided to go with the USP 45. While it is very capable, it is also a very large pistol. I decided on a Glock 30S. Its a handful but it carries well. I just added night sights but it will remain stock otherwise.

I guess I'm boring, and consistent - I carry 2 Ruger LCP Max .380acp, and a Smith & Wesson M&P30 Shield Plus .30sc pistols. Depending on how I'm dressed, or rather how warmly I'm dressed - either the 2 LCP Max pistols in a 'gun vest,' or one in a Desantis Superfly wallet, and the other in an 'ankle biter,' and the S&W IWB@4:30. However you carry practice, practice, practice until it's 2nd nature muscle memory.

I'm in the "I don't rotate my edc" crowd. I have enough trouble switching between different handguns at the range and the last thing I want is for my edc to feel off in a life or death situation. I carry a Hellcat 99% of the time. I'll occasionally carry a spare mag, but not very often.

The only time I change things up is when I'm in big bear country, then I'll carry a 10mm Glock 40, loaded up with hard cast bullets, in a chest holster.

IMO rotating through multiple CCW is pure stupidity. It doesn't matter how many guns I own or shoot, I've carried the same weapons for years. Do what ever floats your boat but in some cases variety is not the spice of life.
