Part instinct, part training, all smarts.
We used to hunt pheasants, quail and other upland game over the last one I had. We always got plenty of birds too. We discovered his knack for it by accident on a hike one day, when we found him holding a perfect point on a covey of quail. He froze them and didn't move a whisker.

I'll have another one someday, and I think I'll tempt fate by naming him "Jerry Lee," just for the fun of it.
