i have inherited a Marlin M2 989 that I attempting to date the manufacture. From what I've read, the serial number is located on this model beneath the forstock. I have reviewed a parts explosion and removed the two screws from the stock, but I can't remove the screw from the front strap swivel on the hand guard ring. I'm not a smithy at all, but figured i could handle this. Not. I have tried unscrewing it, but no joy. The gun is in near-mint condition and I don't want to screw it up. Can anyone give me a clue? I am looking to trade this, but want to know the serial number first.
Thanks to all,
Mike
