And yes, a little bit silly (5 shot magazine max) but there was some logic too.
The philosophy was that the government do not want non-military folks to have full auto firearms, so they were Prohibited.
Handguns or things with short barrels (that you could conceivable hide and shoot up a mall/movie theater), was Restricted, so you need additional background checks, and a second tier licence, and a holding period between paying and taking possession.
Long rifles, single shot, shotguns, were Unrestricted. Meaning, once you have a licence to acquire, you can walk in, buy one and walk out with it. You could go to Federal land anytime and shoot.

But on May 1, 2020, a whole bunch of scary "looking" things were moved from Unrestricted to Prohibited.
So now we have 2 years to: 1-Change the rules, 2-Hand it over to the cops to get squished, 3-Sell it out of the country.

British Columbia sure is a beautiful part of the world. I've spent some time up there and even honeymooned in BC long ago.
