I am relatively new to guns; held a gun for the first time a year and a half ago. Got my teen son into it as well, and hubby had done some shooting when he was a kid but is enjoying getting back to it. Neither of them has caught the bug like I have, though, and they're getting a little sick of hearing about guns. 
I am a member of a large wide ranging forum and of a smaller, more focused forum, but not of a regional forum (until now) and one thing I have learned from the past few months of communicating with gun owners all over the country: the Northwest is a little different.
