Hi all -- found the forum while hunting for a very particular kind of old rifle, but glad to see it's an ecumenical space for talking about firearms -- something that's hard to find these days, and so I hope you'll let me stick around. Excited to be here, despite being very far away.

Welcome tar heel. :D

Tar Heel is a nickname applied to the U.S. state of North Carolina. It is also the nickname of the University of North Carolina athletic teams, students, alumni, and fans. Greetings from another tar-heel.

I always heard the origin of the term was from the battle of cow pens growing up where we stuck to the ground like tar was on our heels. But that is just what I have heard growing up. I know some attribute it to the civil war, but I am fairly certain I have seen attributions the the revolutionary war.

Welcome Aboard. Glad you found the forum.

This is the best place to hang out on the internet.

I know that you're not in the Oregon/ Washington area but we've found the best way to meet the community and learn where and how to use public lands responsibly is through grass roots involvement.

Before someone chimes in... I'm from the Carolinas but the only places hiring when I punched out from the Navy was AOL and Intel Corp. Guess I picked the right horse 🐎. I know a lot of the East doesn't have public lands. Doesn't change the message.

If there isn't a local group that advocates for responsible stewardship of public lands, check out Trash No Land.
