Hi everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself as I am new to the site.

I came across the site looking for an answer to a question I had in regards to transferring of firearms.

My wife's grandfather, who lives in Idaho, gave me his hand gun and I want to be sure I go about this the right way. This is the first time I've received a gun as gift so I don't know what I'm suppose to do or if there is anything I need to do.

Interstate transfer of a firearm is federally regulated and needs to be done correctly. Have the firearm transferred from an ID FFL to an OR FFL and then go to the OR FFL and do the transfer.

Unless I'm misunderstanding something...your wife's grandfather gifted you the firearm while you both resided in the same state, before the current Oregon transfer law went into effect. As to the federal law, it wouldn't apply, as you both resided in the same state....
