Well not necessarily. If you're using it for hunting you may not need a very powerful scope. Maybe 3 to 9 or 4 to 12.
Here in Oregon most of the Hunting is in wooded areas and you don't get really long shots
The downside a 7 mm magnum is the recoil and the cost. If you enjoy shooting, you may decide to save for another Remington in 7 mm/08 or 260 or 308. Which will cost less to shoot and punish your shoulder less. even a nice bolt action 223 is good to shoot.
