In theory sure.... but in reality it's not possible. The majority of 17-21 year olds are unable to currently join due to drugs, criminal records, medical issues or simply cause they are fat bodies. If you mandate everybody the standard is going to plummet. Leaving our military even weaker than it already is.Maybe not serve an enlistment, but at least go through Basic as a "shared cultural experience." Think of it as making the Senior Trip summer a growth experience... and while we're at it, simplify things by having Parris Island do Boot for everybody.
Half of these snowflakes today would crack, and wouldn't meet the physical standards. When I went in on delayed enlistment, I was over weight. I worked hard for a year almost to lose the weight because I really wanted to be in the Air Force. I made it in, and after basic, I was a lean mean, bandage changing, wound dressing machine.Maybe not serve an enlistment, but at least go through Basic as a "shared cultural experience." Think of it as making the Senior Trip summer a growth experience... and while we're at it, simplify things by having Parris Island do Boot for everybody.
My son was a DI at fort Sill for a few years. They aren't allowed to haze em or smoke em like they used to back in the day.In theory sure.... but in reality it's not possible. They would have to be separate programs from each other. Kids nowadays can't even run a mile. Most adult males struggle to complete 3 pull ups. Mentally they are fragile. The insults and hazing alone would be an issue for them. You really think they are making it through Marine Corps bootcamp? Liabilities would be out of this world.
I like the idea i just know its not realistic. Probably why it's better that our military stays volunteer. I wanna say about one percent of America's population serves in the military. That just puts it in perspective.
That may not be such a new phenomenon, at least decades now. Had one knee me in the crotch during basic training, just because I was standing in line. I let it go (he missed the important bits), but apparently others complained about what he did to me. Next thing I know I'm called before the base commander with that poor slob already standing there quaking in his boots. I'm asked to confirm that the incident happened. I confirmed it. I'm asked to press charges against him. I declined and responded that all one had to do was look at that poor slob and it was clear he'd learned his lesson enough. The base commander shook my hand and dismissed me.My son was a DI at fort Sill for a few years. They aren't allowed to haze em or smoke em like they used to back in the day.
I got out in 2017. Hazing was still taking place. But only the junior Marines that were respected and that were known to not go running to SNCOs or officers and it was done out of the view of others. It was almost a compliment to be hazed. My son was a DI at fort Sill for a few years. They aren't allowed to haze em or smoke em like they used to back in the day.
