So what your missing the whole point. AI is telling nothing but truth and there's nothing about it that can be denied or debated. Why would listen to someone else when our specific application and desires are different... and don't forget it's a rifle that I own and use so obviously I would know if I like it and would like it in combat. AI is actually where the good sense is coming from on this subject. Don't dig yourself a bigger hole now, be careful how you respond to that lol.
And I'm back…..

I take it you've been in "combat?"

Call of duty doesn't count.

There's no way I can take anything AI seriously about whats needed in combat. There are members in this forum that have been in combat, some in this thread that would be the people to ask whats needed on a combat rifle.
When we say combat, we are talking civil war on home ground. The great unlikely outset would be an armed invasion of some sort.

I have several examples myself of what I think would fit "the bill" to "handle business". As unlikely any foreseeable scenario on US soil is, I'll support that unlikely hood over the "Ukraine" effect of unarmed, untrained citizens when something kicks off.

The gun grabbers while misinformed are correct in the sense that there is no society in numbers like us.

When I think of "combat" I think of a military application, like if one is in the army or like whats happening right now in Ukraine.

The actual scenario to me though, doesn't matter... it could be a home break in, civil unrest, civil war, or declared war, a fight is a fight and the situation does not matter to me. I embraced the OP's subject because its our right to be armed with military grade weapons. It lost me though with the idea of what to outfit such weapons with from AI suggestions.

I'd say the weapon used in most scenarios state side (as a civilian) is going to be a handgun. More than likely the one that sits on your nightstand or that is on you throughout the day.

Gun fights with rifles in the streets is unlikely/uncommon. Unless you are a criminal in urban environments such as Chicago.

Not saying it can never happen. But it's unlikely. Unless it's something someone is intentionally looking for.

For me, muzzle devices are either going to be a Silencer, or Flash Suppressor, Nothing else!
If it can't kill sound, it had better kill flash, there are many types out there, I much prefer the Smiths Int. Vortex over all the others, and for Sound, well, I got that covered with a top tier can! I only suppress the smaller calibers, for the 7.62X51, just a flash suppressor is all I need, it's the 5.56 that gets the Can!

Comps and brakes suck. An A5 buffer coupled with a properly ported mid-length gassed barrel will do more for controllability than any muzzle device. The blast and flash from comps and brakes are unacceptable on a "combat weapon", there is a reason many ranges/trainers forbid there use in classes.

Scroll down and read under "brakes"

+1 for the Smith Vortex, I have 3 of the very early ones mounted on AR's and it's amazing how well they work. I did wrap some baling wire in the groove of the tines to keep from snagging on things. Depending on ammo you may get a few fire flies but that's about it.

My third grade teacher told me that fighting is bad. I believed her and have dedicated my life to pacifism. Thank you, Mrs. Fowler.
Besides, guns are scary.

I thought the point was a gun for combat?
If you like a compensator on your combat rifle thats ok but AI never stated if its better. I'm guessing most combat veterans want to reduce muzzle flash and 556 recoil is negligible.
Anyone not able to handle 5.56 recoil should re-evaluate their life choices, like doing more pushups.

Someone asking for a LiL'More Combat circa-2012 Inspiration???....

...should I rotate the pic? :p

I have a couple Allen AEM5 suppressors to keep them quiet. NXS on the left and NX8 on the right, in A.R.M.S. rings (fingers-crossed that they don't strip or fall apart). Harris bipods on A.R.M.S. mounts and HK 20 rd magazines.

Negatives: So Yester-War

If I could pick any rifle for combat...
I'd go with either one of my issued M21's or one of the various CAR-15's I was issued.
No optics on the CAR-15 just plain iron sights....no fancy rails or attachments either....bone stock.
I have used both when it really mattered...and they worked well for me.

As it stands now...
I have two rifles I can count on to make hits when I need to.
Neither of them are what folks would think of as a combat firearm.
But for me...they work ..even if only one of them is a cartridge gun....:D

In any event....
While I have the skills and willingness to use them as such...I hope I never again have to.
However....I will do so , if called upon...and with no regrets.

I'm curious to see how many people here have actually bought or built a gun specifically for combat. It's mainly an AR topic but I wanted to open it up for anyone, as long as the specific purpose of your gun is for combat. I know it's very few and far between but let's see what becomes of it. Am I the only one who has built a rifle for living in the mountains during a collapse of society/survival situation? Probably so but if you've got a gun made for combat then please share a picture of it along with specs. Did you build it? List the components you added and why you chose them specifically. For example: what optic do you have on it and why? Tell us whatever your willing to say about it.

Again, I realize it's few and far between, but this isn't meant to be a "post any gun" you own thread. I'm genuinely curious to know how many people have, and especially built, a gun/rifle made for combat (not just home defense). If you dont currently, does it interest you? Post your comment then. How far fetched is it to have something like this?

Next I will post the one I have built, as an example.
I personally wouldn't choose a ar15 for a combat rifle, but that's just me
