Gun Transfer Fees?

What's the going rate for gun Transfers here in the PNW, I'm in Tri-Cities and just got beat over the head for $54 for a competed transfer. If you have or know of someone in tri-cities who's reasonable, please pass it along. I'm new to the region, first transfer here.

Certainly my fault for not checking the transfer price prior to transfer, but I definitely feel taken advantage of. Had a pocket full of money to buy a revolver I'd been drooling over and needed ammo for the weekend. Took my business elsewhere after being floored by the transfer fee...

From $10 to $100, depending on whether or not the dealer really wants to deal with it.
Transfers, despite what customers may think or see, do take time and manpower, so they do cost. Companies that don't charge are likely counting on profiting off the customer on later dealings. It's a good deal for the customer if you can find one who does it.

The average I have seen seems to be about $30 out the door. Some more, some less.

Here in the PDX area, the best I've seen is $20 for the transfer and BGC (we have to pay $10 for BGC's in Oregon, sucks). Several places will do $25-30. I've seen $45 and even up to $75 as the worst - and they will never, ever get my business again, for anything. Out in Tri-Cities, probably fewer FFL's to choose from and that probably means higher fees. Unfortunately I can't help with a suggestion except to say do your research before your next transfer - and be sure to keep an eye out for home-based FFL's - you may find a better deal with them.

I was quite literally shocked. I'd been buying ammo there and other items, I like to support small businesses in the region. Especially those that are firearm related. I bought a Glock 34 there earlier in the year. Been buying mags there monthly...

Maybe I won't find a better option for transfers, but there will be no more ancillary expenses there.

Receipt of a firearm might take 5 minutes. Paperwork on purchase took 5 minutes. I understand it's a business and everyone has to profit. But, being bludgeoned is neither good, nor smart on my end...

F-them. They wasted an hour and a half of mine when I should have spent 10 minutes there. Actually, that now plays into how much of my time and money I spend in the store.

It's not out of line to pay $25-30 for a transfer, especially if the seller can drop the gun and go.

I did ONE at Fisherman's in OC because my buyer wanted to meet there. $45 and 90 minutes! They wouldn't let me leave, which other FFL's I've dealt with would do. NEVER will use Fisherman's for a transfer again.

20 on the low end 40 on the very high end.
Anyone charging more has lost me as a customer.

We charge $35 that includes the BG... SOT or any other Class 3 transfer is $100, purely due to the amount of paperwork involved.

I like fisherman's, but I have only bought amo and new guns from them. I figure I will be doing any private sale transfer somewhere else.
I would think that PSTC should do transfers for a reasonable price, but they don't. Of course my solution to a problem involves government (let the booing ensue). LoL
Definitely a good idea to research these things before hand.

PS, Mike, which one? Standard rate?

Seems to me like it would make sense to me for the seller to hang around until the transfer is complete. What if the buyer gets flagged and rejected on the BGC? Now the FFL has a gun, but no owner around to take it back.

Up here I paid $40 bucks but the gun range store in Burlington said $35 for civilian lol and $25 for military or first responder fire police so on and so on

Depends on the FFL. Tigard Pawn, as an example, lets the seller go once they have received the gun and the seller receives payment. At that point, the gun is technically the property of the FFL. What they told me was if the buyer gets delayed, they'll hold it for them. If they get denied, they offer the buyer to let the FFL sell it, for a fee. It means the seller is going to lose some $$. They could also offer to call me back and let me come and buy it back - which, of course, requires a transfer and another BGC, at extra cost.

I had 2 buyers with issues - both related to ID that wasn't up to date. That would have cost me a sale and/or my time, but the FFL took on the responsibility. Doing that was a benefit to me, and puts the issue on the FFL if things don't go smoothly. Honestly, I kind of appreciate that service.

Excellent! Are you home based? Store front?

I figure a person might be better off looking to pawn shops for their transfers. Money Market Pawn on SE Powell was $30.00.

Talos Tactical in West Richland, or Hole in the Wall in Kennewick charge $25 to transfer. Remember that if it's from an FFL, they have to charge sales tax, from an individual, they do not have to charge sales tax, no matter if it is a face-to-face transfer or shipped in.

Rattlesnake Ordanance ([email protected]) is a very small operation and they charge $10.
