I had the pleasure of corresponding with a number individuals from pro-2A groups during the IP-43 battle. I talked to two gentleman from the NRA via email, one from OFF by said medium, and with OOC via a few different modes. All of which were fruitful correspondence and I am thankful for the fine work they did to stop this egregious violate of our rights.

I contacted Gun Owners of America (GOA) on June 7th. Their site is set up in such a manner that one contacts them by starting a "ticket" and they will, presumably, reply in due course. I did so and directed it to the "State Legislation" department. As of this writing, I have received no response of any kind, either via email or on the aforementioned site. I cannot seem to find any references to actions they've taken on this front either.

A question out of curiosity: Has anyone interacted with GOA concerning IP-43 and what was their response?

Later today, I received another message from GOA. The content of said was essentially a link to this article: Oregon Firearms Federation Declares Gun Confiscation Measure Dead

Of the messages they passed along, three weeks after the initial contact, were:
  • One providing the news of the initiatives.
  • One talked about OFF's lawsuit and related work.
  • The final one providing the same news provided by the NRA, OOC, and OFF earlier in the week.
I have yet to see any indication they took any legal action against IP-43 or IP-44. Should I be provided information to that effect, I will revise that statement, but I don't believe that will be forthcoming, considering the anti-freedom initiatives are now deader than doornail.

I am going to continue membership and additional funding to the NRA (including investigating an upgrade to life membership tomorrow), OFF, and OOC. Candidly, considering recent events, I don't believe I will make any contributions to GOA in the near future. To each their own.

I support OFF, GOA and the NRA and frankly I don't see much of anything from any of them. Kevin is a nice guy but he seems more reactive than proactive. I'm not knocking him, he's got a lot on his plate. The NRA hasn't bothered with us that I can remember but please correct me if I'm wrong and now it sounds like GOA could be replaced by google.

So, I dunno' maybe it's a waste of money.
But this I do know:

The NRA partnered with OHA in a lawsuit against IP 43, so they did at least roll up their sleeves. I'll finally start donating again based on that.

I got a few robo calls the last few months from them looking for donations and I told them my money goes to whoever is fighting the fire closest to me and so far that ain't them. Also lectured them that their National efforts had been so successful that the anti's had changed tactics to state and local arenas, and that they needed to adjust to that or our house would burn down from the inside. Finished up each call telling them that as soon as they engaged here I would start donating again. Maybe I wasn't the only one chewing them a new one.

OOC and OFF IMO were the true heroes. I was so impressed by OOC and after hearing Dominic speak on Lars Larson I decided to join. I'm already a member of OFF. GOA is now cut off until I see something more from them than empty bragging. SAF gets a little money from me with every Amazon purchase through the Smile program, and Fred Meyers is set to donate to OFF on their donation program. The bulk of my discrete donations are going to go to OOC and OFF at this point.

Supporting those organizations that stepped up to the plate is frankly in our own best interest.

These are reactive organizations, we need to get ourselves involved in proactive work now. There should be a whole agenda of pro-gun legislation to be introduced in the legislature in January. The best thing we could do is force the antis into a defensive position.

I feel we have a bit of momentum at this point and should exploit that to get on the offense for a change...

Nary a peep till this wee, what a coincidence.

"James,

Anti-gun politicians are hoping for a "blue wave" in November that will give them the control of the House and Senate that they need to continue their crusade to trample our Second Amendment rights.

We can't let that happen.

Step up with an URGENT end-of-quarter contribution of $5, $10, $25, $50, or even $100 and help ensure that we have a pro-Second Amendment majority in Congress.

James, if we want to ensure a victory for the Second Amendment in November, we need to start supporting pro-Second Amendment candidates in primaries across the country now.

We have to rise up and show the anti-gun forces in Washington just how out-of-touch they really are with the American people.

Contribute 5, $10, $25, $50, or even $100 before tonight's deadline and help us ensure that we have a pro-Second Amendment majority in Congress.

In Liberty,

The organizations actually filing the appeals to the ballot title in the Oregon Supreme Court the OOC, the NRA, OHA, and OFF. Give credit where it's due.

Latest email I got from GOA stated:

"GOA members had strongly supported the OFF challenge. According to OFF's Kevin Starrett, fund-raising for the suit experienced a noticeable bump after our alert."

GOA is very Grass Roots, I think they work every avenue they can but don't directly work with OFF other then to bring attention to their fight. I could be wrong. They have been really good from what I've seen going around to have questions answered. If you have a question find a podcast or event they are going to be at, it's likely they will answer your questions directly... They did mine.

I support GOA for the Federal fight and OFF for the local one. This year I spent a lot on helping and it paid off. I figured it'd be cheaper then moving.

I just wish the antis would knock it off and go back to knitting so I could go back to reloading. We all have our hobbies, why does mine have to involve so much political activism? :/

The fact is that they are not really interested in any of their stated goals. Their unstated goal is what drives them, and that is punishing all gun owners. We are the poster children for individualism and individual rights. We have no use for their collectivist solutions for every problem. We upset them by not being as helpless and conformist as they are. In their lives there is someone (usually the government) to call who will take care of any of their problems. They don't fix their own plumbing or their own cars. You're supposed to hire someone to do those things, just like you are supposed to hire someone to protect you from crime. Their well ordered world depends on everybody buying into their rules and regulations, and not stepping out on their own to solve problems. People who do such things endanger everyone, in their view. Do your own electrical work and you might cause a fire. Protect yourself with a firearm and you might get shot or shoot an innocent bystander. No, no...mustn't do that kind of thing. It's dangerous and makes us feel inadequate.

That is what drives this mentality, and in my experience, many of the people who hold these collectivist views have "daddy" problems. They had bad "daddy" experiences as a child and they want to get back at him and males in general. There's nothing more male symbolically and socially than a gun. Hence the fixation they have on guns being substitute penises, and taking them away from all males.

Well stated, and probably spot on, Sigmund Zeke. As Obama clearly said: "For the greater good." Collective socialism. Isn't going to happen in my lifetime.

Really.

Quite right. Candidly, I had some doubts concerning OFF, based upon some correspondence I had with them in the past. Those concerns have been largely erased because they were primary movers and shakers on stopping the abomination known as IP-43. OOC, of which I had not heard of until this recent mess, did fantastic work too and I am glad to have the opportunity to support them. Put another way, any organization that is actively fighting the anti-freedom crew has my moral, financial, and logistical support. :)

I sent each of those two an additional $50 contribution.

One proactive goal would be to make sure we take back control of the Oregon House in November. Pro-gun legislation would go no where with the current make up of the Oregon House and Senate and Gov.
