Front sight height on Gold Cup

I am looking to replace the factory front sight on a Colt Gold Cup that I recently acquired in a trade with a Novak fiber optic front sight. The Novak's come in several different sight heights i.e., .175, .180, .185, etc....... I want to replace it with the same height sight, but don't know what that is and I don't have a set of calipers.

My owners manual doesn't say anything about it.

Can anyone tell me what height sight I should get to replace the factory original?

As an aside, is the sight height measured from the bottom of the dovetail to the top of the sight, or from the top of the slide to the top of the sight (yeah, I know, dumb question)?
