I'm looking to get one more semi automatic handgun before any of this measure 114 comes into effect. Budget is about $1000 so I have a few hundred left for mags.

The blue CZ shadow w/out optic cut is on sale at sportsman's now for about that. I shot one of these at the range and it was incredible. Not sure what's drawing me to even consider other options ha. Down the line, I could mill the slide.

There are some very nice Beretta 92s on classifieds here in the ballpark.

Maybe a nice 1911?

Probably won't compete anytime soon, just looking for a fun range gun that's not a Glock, easy and fun to shoot. I hunt in Oregon, never really felt the need for a woods carry, but maybe a 10 mm would add some variety to my collection - but that brings me to another striker fired pistol probably.

What is the fun-gun you smile most when you shoot? Easy share with a new shooter? Good trigger? Reliable? Stood the test of time?

I don't even know what I'm looking for, just feel an itch like I may only have one more shot to get a nice handgun

Grand power X-calibur is on par with a modded out shadow 2. Cost is $579 for non optic ready. Trigger is phenomenal. Zero creep of any sort just wall, clean ultra light break, teeny tiny reset. When I first shot it I had to be careful not to have doubles until I got used to it the reset is so tiny. Rotating barrel action reduces recoil compared to browning tilt barrel guns. Slide is almost too light you can rack it with your pinky. Very nice sights. Optic ready version is much more expensive like $1100.

Did side by side testing with 2 full sized steel red dot guns, 3 shots as fast as I could multiple strings. x-caliber was 22% faster than the next highest gun and group sizes were 52% smaller. And it had iron sights.

For $879 you could buy both the X-calibur and grand power q1 (old non optic ready version is $299). Q1 is striker fired Glock 19 size and outshot every striker fired gun I have, by quite a margin. Grand power is popular in Europe competition shooting but fairly unknown in USA.

If you want 10mm sig p220 legion SAO can be found for $1050 on sale.

If you want fun I would buy mke mp5 clone or mp5k clone for $1100. I can recommend mke only, not another brand clone. That's a gun would really kick myself if m114 prevented me from buying it. Over your budget though a bit and is subgun/pdw not handgun.

Arex zero is likely more reliable than Sig p226 and is great gun. For $409 below it's a steal imo. Has big beefy grips liek p226 so if you don't like that you may not like. Black and fde non tactical are all that are left. Suggest watching Mac and tfbtv videos on it on YouTube.

IMO can't go wrong with any of those above. X-calibur plus Arex zero would be $988 without shipping. Grand power guns come with 3 mecgar mags and Arex zero comes with 2 mecgar mags. Both are da/sa but have manual safety so you can shoot SAO which is what I do.

My vote is CZ, but I'm extremely biased as I got my first 75 compact a few years back and almost immediately went and picked up 3 more of their handguns. They all feel like they were molded perfectly for my hands. Hard to beat the quality, craftsmanship and beauty for the price imo!

I second the CZ. I have a Tactical Sport Orange, and It would be the last pistol if I could only keep one. Any of the CZ75 based pistols are fantastic.

For just a LITTLE bit more, you can get the newish Shadow 2 Compact. Shadow 2 if you are looking for a heavier range toy, but Shadow 2 Compact for a really good all around gun with a GREAT trigger.

Beretta 92 with a Langdon Trigger job is absolutely incredible.

Other sub $1000 options:
Beretta M9A4.
Sig P226 MK25.
M&P9 2.0 Metal frame
Glock 19X MOS

Thinking outside the box option- Beretta PX4 Storm. Langdon trigger upgrade, and this is one of the smoothest guns out there. For trues!

Was recently feeling a similar feeling and have been very interested in the S2. That said, I have a soft spot for stainless/nickel/chrome finishes (mostly because I don't own any, or at least I didn't).

Apart from the used market, S2-like options pretty much lead one to Tanfoglio if you want that hard chrome finish. I'm not saying you do, but I did, and it ended up being relevant regardless of the finish. Reason being, a Stock 2 or Stock Master with a tiny bit of trigger work is allegedly on par with S2. Some prefer the Tanfo. Throw in the fact that it's not a gun you see every day and that helped me get off the fence.

Edit: I was also intrigued by Arex before I got my P09-C. Gun broker has some of the non-tacticals for 299. I was a bit skeptical about the influencer blitz, but that price makes rolling the dice less dicey.

Go with the one you are drawn to and have actually shot: the CZ Shadow. If you go with something else I guarantee you'll still always have that Shadow 2 in the back of your mind!

The shadow 2 or was my first 114 pistol. The second was a sig p210 target. The 210 target is absolutely fantastic, but it's old school and not for everyone. I just love love it! I'd have a hard time deciding between the two if I had to choose one. The shadow 2 has the capacity though that will soon be outlawed as the iron curtain closes around us, so I'd buy it first (and I did). I made sure to get eight mags plus for every one of my guns that could be unavailable. I've made it a habit since 2004.

Reading this thread is giving me the itch to pick up a S2 again - never shot or handled one, but I've only ever heard great things about them

As the owner of a few S2's.... send it! All mine started life as non-optic but I've never shot one of mine without an optic - Stonebridge does a great job cutting them.

For me, the guns that make me smile are my 1911's and my Berettas. At least as far as center fire guns go.

We need to have faith and do what we can to make sure this unconstitutional measure 114 never goes into effect. I'm not making any plans to abide by it.
