Ladies and gents I bring you a question to partake in. if so desired.
Federal Black 22LR ammo any good?
I realize good, is matter of use and perspective.

The use and perspective being plinking , target. Non vermin use.
Observed this on sale at Bimart, wondered if it faired well in non-critical conditions?
General use is normally that cheap buck ammo for plinking.
Tend to use CCI for in decapacitating the rodent/marsupial population, or the 17hmr.

Thank You for your time and thoughts.

Those federal bulk ammo are all same, different packages for stores.

I usually get them, because it shoots clean and cycle well.

But not all .22lr guns are the same, so try different ammo to see what cycles / shoot better.

Thank you Sir, I had seen them on the shelves in the past, but on a whim purchased a box of 1100 yesterday.
Probably have in the locker a few dozen brands, just wondered how they faired for others.

Thanks

I bought 6 of the current on the shelve black pack.

Chrono'd it after having a lot of trouble running it in any semi auto.

The spread was horrendous, had a couple in the 900 FPS range. Powder charges were clearly all over the place.

Great for bolt action, not so much for semis, at least in my experience.

When I have purchased in bulk for plinking it has been mostly the green and white, they fair well for me in the semi, and the bolt.
Thank you for sharing your experience.

I've had good success with it in the M&P 15/22, but the 10/22 is reliable only with CCI mini mags

I had great results in 3 different auto pistols; going back for more!
I too have a variety of older well known stuff, but this is working well enough with no FTF etc.

You all make me wonder what I'm doing different. My .22s either feed everything or nothing. Never had a picky one. And there's no way I'll be spending anything close to centerfire prices for rimfire so mini mags aren't worth looking at

If you are referring to my mention of using CCI? I have two firearms that only perform well with them. A Sig Mosquito, and my Remington Nylon 66. Both are more accurate with CCI. My 10/22 and Marlin 60's as well as the Savage bolt we have, all shoot what ever we throw at them. I replaced the spring in the Sig, and it only improved it slightly. The 66 may be because of age, but is tack driver with the CCI. And I have a Phoenix arms that wont shoot anything so there is that. But that's all the 22LR firearms I have to speak of.

Nope. Was in reference to @308 and his post. I think it's luck of the draw with newer 10/22s.

I have an aftermarket match barrel. Probably should have mentioned that previously. It's not totally picky, but the chamber does seem to foul fast with anything but the CCI

I picked up sever boxes of it on Black Friday a couple years back when they had the rebate. It was $39.99 for 1600 rounds. It's hit and miss with my three 10/22's, reliable in my two 22/45's, and even accurate in my newly acquired 617 4". For cheap ammo it's not too bad, maybe a little more carbon fouling on the stainless revolver compared to some of my other ammo but it cleans up easily.

My older 10/22 with a heavy barrel digests/runs everything.... but then, I keep it clean. ;):D

Used to shoot only Mini-Mags for .22 steel silhouette, then found out that Rem Golden Bullet specs out faster and is soooo much less expensive.
