Bought my first pistol at Bwana Junction. It was a Colt Series 70 1911.
Bwana Junction, was right next to the cop shop downtown. They got a lot of really good trade-ins from the guys at that precinct.
Every now and then, some higher end merch would show up.
Joe Lee, the owner, really liked to haggle, and bargain.
👍👍

Already mentioned but last 2 places I have purchased from in the last decade are Santiam Buyers and Ticklickers.

Mick at MLC class 3 was good
The GunShop out in Ballston is still my all time favorite. Larry was a character. He closed a long time ago though.

Santiam Buyers is my home gun shop, I've spent a LOT of money there. Colt always treats me right.

My most memorable gun shop was Andersons in downtown Salem, I handled my first firearm there before they closed sometime around 1990.

I do like Santiam Buyers and swing in when Im out Stayton way.
Andersons was great. Nothing like being 12 and getting to handle the guns when asked.

Kens Gunshop in Crescent was great. Buddies and I bought a fair amout from him back in tge late 80s/early 90s.

Bought my first shotgun from Andersons with my berry picking money. A Remington 11-48 at age 12 or so. Still have the shotgun.

Both of my favorite shops closed years ago.
I had that happen, too, but it was more than two of them.
Rich's Gun Shop in Donald and Ole's in Salem. Those shops are where I cut my teeth into the firearm world. They were great places to find used guns at the time, as that's what my wallet only permitted at the time. Plus, Ole's always had the back room for used reloading equipment and components.
Rich's was cool. Loved going and seeing what was in the racks.
Larry's Sporting Goods had a great gun section before the switch to Fisherman's Marine.
The Powder Horn was fantastic, as was H&K, which may still be in business.

In 2011 I quit my job and would go to various gun shops I'd not been to before. Most of those shops aren't around anymore.

I'm watching this thread because I want to find some of these hidden gems, if there are any left.

I have to put a plug in for Highline- lived in Newberg for many years, but moved before they opened their new location. Huge selection of both guns and gear, friendly staff. I appreciate that anyone who walks through the door, they say hi to them right away. I know that may seem small, but so many guns stores you walk in, and the staff hardly look up, and you have to ask for assistance, like you are inconveniencing them. So far every trip I have had to Highline they always ask if they can help and take care of me right away.

Oh they also have their punchcards where if you do something like 10 background checks, the next one is free. That is pretty cool!

NW Armory is also very good,. Also check out Adaptive Firearms Solutions, and Steves new storefront in Oregon City. He has a small in house stock, but can get you whatever you need, and has good prices, and great service!

25 years ago I called The Gun Room . I was trying to gain insight on several firearm models both foreign and domestic . Whoever was on the call just point plank said " if you're not interested in only buying a 1911 I don't have time to spend with you " . Granted I now do own 1911's along with other brands years later but the first impression I received was one of narrow bias and unhelpful . As a result that unfortunately was the last time I had contact with them . Actions did have consequences .
