Well were not finding this in national news headlines so theres that...$10 says the shooters were not of a certain demographic and is the reason why no prosecutor wants to touch the case.
You're in the minority. Therefore you don't matter.Funny… I can't recall the last time I got what I voted for.
One of the hallmarks....Well were not finding this in national news headlines so theres that...
The Ham Sandwich RuleAccording to the news article, ". . . ten senior prosecutors reviewed videos of the shooting and all independently agreed there was not enough to disprove a self-defense claim." That right there might seem like a good thing, a DA office trying really hard to do its job according to law. OTOH, it's hard to believe they routinely have TEN senior prosecutors reviewing videos instead of just telling one to go run with it. To me, it seems more like the DA was "prosecutor shopping" in hopes of finding one of 'em who thinks there's enough evidence to overcome a self defense argument in court.
As for taking it to a Grand Jury, that'd be totally one-sided because the prosecutor has total license to decide what witnesses are called, and what evidence gets presented. Even with that game weighted in their favor, it seems they hold no cards.
I have to wonder if the LEOs would have the same opinion about the shooting if it was LEOs who did the shooting and otherwise all facts of the situation were the same?Based on that article alone, my guess is the Renton police "leaders" are injecting political bias against the shooters. Renton is a suburb of Seattle, if "ten senior prosecutors reviewed videos of the shooting and all independently agreed there was not enough to disprove a self-defense claim" in a highly liberal area all agree it was self defense my guess is the Renton police "leaders" don't know the law.

No charges expected for men who shot man at Renton Transit Center

Pretty sure a grand jury is not required in the state of Washington where this incident occurred. Although indictment by grand jury is allowed for in Washington, prosecutors may also file criminal charges directly - without a grand jury indictment - through an "Information".Pretty sure grand jury is required by the 5th Amendment before actually indicting the dudes![]()
Not being a resident of WA, I don't keep myself apprised of their state laws beyond what occasionally pertains to me. Nevertheless, the 5A does require grand jury indictments in (ed. federal) "capital or otherwise infamous" crimes (possibly a felony/misdemeanor distinction),Pretty sure a grand jury is not required in the state of Washington where this incident occurred. Although indictment by grand jury is allowed for in Washington, prosecutors may also file criminal charges directly - without a grand jury indictment - through an "Information".
Also, cases to be tried in Courts of Limited Jurisdiction (the lowest level of Washington's court system) do not require grand jury indictment. Included are District and Municipal courts which hear misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor cases.
At the time the news article was published, the two shooters had only misdemeanor firearms charges potentially hanging over their heads and no decision had been reached to bring those charges. If prosecutors ever decide to file those charges, the cases would be heard in Renton City Municipal Court (a Court of Limited Jurisdiction where no grand jury indictment is required).
That is NOT the way it works.Pretty sure grand jury is required by the 5th Amendment before actually indicting the dudes![]()
