Actually it is considered a compact....The larger tactical model is considered the "full size". This pistol has dimensions of 7.3" long X 5.50 tall...the Glock 23 - considered to be a "compact" version of the Glock 22, as opposed to the subcompact Glock 27, is 7.36" long X 4.99" tall. Essentially the same.
When I purchased the gun in 2006 Springfield DID call it a "compact". So obviously they have tweaked the names a bit since then as they have released different versions of the gun since I purchased it. They didn't have the XDm or XDs then.
- Sub Compact had a 3 inch barrel
- Compact had a 4 inch barrel (this is the one I have)
- Tactical had a 5 inch barrel (if I remember correctly back then they called this the "Service Model)
