"Originally thought I wanted a co-pilot but S Texas heat is not conducive to having dogs in cars."

But I like to go for rides ......... ;)

View attachment 2128404
Oh they love to go for car rides but even a full sized pickup is short on room for 180# of dog on one seat! LOL. I do take them out in the early mornings to a large parcel of school property on Sat/Sun mornings. I park the truck and let them out to run. They run at full speed too. I leave the doors open and when they've had enough they get back in.

The breed of the dog factors in here. My Lab, black, does not like the heat and sun much. We had a small black chihuahua mixed dog for years. On these 95-100 degree days she loved to lay on the front porch and suck up all of the sun she could. I would pick her up and she would be warm and limp as a noodle because she was totally relaxed. Take her back into the house and all she wanted was back outside!
Our yard offers shade and I always keep the water bowls full. Birds, squirrels and our chickens appreciate that as much as the dog does.

I too put a tub of water under the bushes out front for anything that wants water

95 deg in garage. Swamp cooler on. I guess my dog found a cooler spot. Half Catahoula half aussie. Maybe waiting for ups guy or ice cream truck.

Thanks for posting this @Joe13

We have a large water bowl that is always out and always kept fresh.
Not only for our dog and cat...but we do get neighbor's dogs and cats over for a visit / play time.
Deer and birds also drink from it...and suffer from the heat.

Shade is available as well.
Keep an eye on your pets....:)

They sure do appreciate it! When I first found my cat, she was living outdoors after being abandoned. I'd had to move back in with my mom after a series of emergencies, and my mom is very allergic to cats (ie, the cat could not come inside). Used to put out cold water for her every day as well as wrap some ice packs in a towel and put it in a shady spot so she could rest somewhere cool.

She's currently napping in front of one of the fans in my apartment and I am confident she remembers being outdoors in this heat. No thanks!

Daminals! This darn one-eyed cat we have, almost two years old, will go out in the garage on days like this where it's hotter than Hades. And lay on the hot concrete. It's plenty cool in the house, with a cool/vinal kitchen floor to lay on, but nope! He goes outside to the fully fenced yard daily. The dork will be under some day lily leaves up against the house where the sun shines hot! I have a heck of a time getting him out because I can't get down and back in far enough to get ahold of his limp body! There's plenty of shade and relatively cooler grass to lay on.

Further proof cats are demon animals!!!
Yeah, but I've come to terms with that. I appease his every need. And cat's don't eat the furniture, or crap behind the sofa when your gone. :D And Jack has been somewhat trained to get up on the recliner to get his harness when he wants to go outside. And again to take the harness off. He loves spicy pork rinds too.

I did have a fine papered Dame Doberman in my early 20s for 13 years. Some real good times were had with that Girl. She loved to travel!

Daisy likes to sun herself, so she'll go lay in the blazing sunshine for a while. Then move to the concrete patio for initial cooldown, finally scratching at the door to come in and take up residence on an a/c vent…

All 4 of our dogs do that. It was up over 80 today and I went out back to find all of them laying in the direct sun loving it. Later when they came in couple of them got on the bed with me under the AC. The one will get under the covers when the AC is on telling me her opinion of the room temp :s0140:

Man I love those Huskies and Malemute's. Incredible dogs, they seem to ooze personality! All that fur, seems it would be a nightmare in hot weather.

Doesn't like the a/c, eh?

He needs a double coat and a layer of fat, then he'll feel differently about a/c.
She's 49lbs of pure lean muscle. Just had a yearly vet visit and even the vet commented on how good she looked as far as how healthy she is.

She does like to go out and sit or lay down on the concrete where the sun is and I have to make sure she doesn't stay out very long or she gets over hot fast and can sunburn.

I like her lean. She's a great napping buddy…. Like a hot water bottle at my legs lol.

It's a real scorcher today folks. Let's pay double attention to our furry friends, to make sure they're staying cool!

My girl is pretending to be road kill again. Silly dog.

Daisy is enjoying a time on the porch after her morning walk and breakfast. Enjoying what little cool concrete there is.

Take care of the animals today, it's going to be a tough day for them. Including g the wild ones. We put water out in the shade for the birds. Started doing this after a robin was caught drinking from Daisy's water dish during the last heatwave.
