Does this look like a suitable backstop?

Decided to stop by this spot I saw from Gmaps aerial photos. There is a smaller pit to the rear with real fine gravel mounds, but this larger upper area does not have that. Its more a rocky mountain side. Would there be an issue shooting here?

Rock quarrys look inviting but the risk is ricochets, not just straight back at you but any direction including the sides... where the pic shows people can drive up.

I've had bullets ricochet off rock faces and hit me when I used to shoot at a loose rock berm.
Shoot into the gravel and you should be fine.
Edit to add, not the bullets, but pieces of the copper jacket.

I thought ricochets would be an issue. The lower pit though would be okay for small pistols. Its not pictured. Maybe next time I'm up there I'll stop in and take a pic of the lower part.

FS-5720 140 is the only bit of gravel road. Everything else is paved. Some pot holes on NF-5720 though.

Oh yeah thanks for that. I actually found them earlier last week and am waiting for a cleanup event closer to home. But I plan to go checkout wildcat one of these up coming weekends.

But yeah I'm not really exploring around looking for shooting places, I'm more looking for them as a side quest while I explore the trails on my dual sport. Today I was actually up near Timothy Lake scouting some camping spots and stopped into ripplebrook pit to shoot a new to me gun and decided to finally go check out that little quarry on my way back.

That's a good way to find places to shoot, G Maps or Google Earth. Always best to check an app like onX to verify if it's public or private. Of course, this one is on Mt Hood Nat Forest and I haven't heard of any shooting restrictions around T Lake.

I agree with the majority, and your thoughts, about the ricochet potential (I can never spell that correctly... rickoshay!). That soft looking dirt, down low, would be good, but you'd need a backhoe to move those lower rocks first .

Sorry, @MotoManGunner , no nearby cleanups schedule for a while. I'm sure there'll be something later this summer. Next ones are long distance (Sultan Basin, WA & Klamath Falls, OR).
