Top one is a S&W Model 25—2, Target Model 1955. Bottom is a S&W Model 625—2, Target Model 1988. Both in .45 ACP.That's a good looking model 625 you got there. Don't know what model the older one is
As far as I can tell, the older model is, somewhat ironically considering my history giggle, actually made in the early 1980s. Regarding the 1988 marked specimen, according to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 4th edition (2016, Gun Digest Books):
"The authors are quite befuddled (admittedly, no great accomplishment) by varying information surrounding the introduction of this model. It's not confusing enough with the first introduction of this model is a dash two (—2) model designation. Early variants will be found with both "Model of 1988" and "Model of 1989", this despite the fact that some information indicates 1989 introduction."
