I quit doing business with unknown companies and stick to the businesses that have been around for decades now because of the proliferation of scams. That and I don't like giving all my info to so many companies that will increase to likely hood of getting stolen. Smaller footprint = less risk

This!

Check your checking or cc account to see if you were actually charged that amount. I've gotten "Thanks for your order" message denoting PP. They do not come from PP. They want you to respond in someway, or reach out to the listed phone number. Its a scam. Separately go to your PP account and go to security and copy them
I locked my account at 1:08 am and they were still able to withdraw the funds at 9:22 this morning, heading to the bank in a bit.... and I was actually charged $707!

Sounds/Looks like more of this crap goes on every day. I do most of my buying on Amazon. Not much gun stuff though. Just the stuff that, anymore, is hard to find size/style in stores without traveling all over hell!

A couple of questions:
What makes PayPal (and others, Apple Pay?) so great, what does it do that CCs don't/cant?
Is it people that can't get credit cards that use PP etc?
If it's a PIA to get money back from PP/AP in a case like this, why would a sensible, logical person use the service?
What is great about Paypal is you don't have to put your credit card info out there onto the Internet.
I've used Paypal for 20 years. I use it almost exclusively to buy stuff online, never had a problem with PP. I also vet unknown sellers carefully. I never pay with a CC because I don't like putting my card info out there. PP has great buyer protection, I've had 2 disputes where my item didn't arrive and the seller didn't respond, both were refunded instantly by PP.
On a similar note an Amazon seller kept extending the estimated delivery date. I contacted Amazon and got a live person, he said he entered the info, if I would wait till the delivery date if it didn't arrive let them know and they would refund it, or if I preferred he would cancel the order and refund me immediately. I wanted the items and chose to wait. Items arrived on the promised date.
I try to only buy items sold by and shipped by Amazon to avoid issues with sellers and to get Amazons excellent return policy.

I do not use Appler pay, Google pay etc and Never use instant tap to pay NFC. NFC is disabled on our phones. Might just be an old fogey but I don't trust the tech.

That's it huh? Well in that case, who would be interested in this fine bridge I have? It's in a dream city and will bring in $3K a day in tolls and only require a /dollar Two-Ninety-Eight in maintenance a day. It's a sure get-rich deal for the right person. I promise.
I'll give you two bits! PM payment details!

I don't trust paper money became
I don't trust checks became
I don't trust credit cards became
I don't trust debit cards

And at on and so forth. Yet despite all the payment abvances we've made in this country, I still get stuck behind the old woman who pays with a check and can't remember what store she's at.

I placed an order for a holster and the total was 26.95 I checked out using PP and was immediately charged $607.00! I received confirmation the 6 items were shipped and delivered, this was 1 hr after placing the order. I have no idea what or if anything was shipped and definitely not delivered! I filed with PP but don't hold out much hope of recovering the funds. I will never again use PP....
Whenever you're in doubt, if it seems too good to be true then post your concerns, we're here to help.
Hopefully PP does something for you but don't hold your breath.

Yeah, she waits until the last item is rang up and bagged, then starts fumbling in her purse for the checkbook... drives me nuts.

I use a discover Card. There should be ZERO problems with having to put my "Info" at various on line retailers. I ONCE had an issue. The people at discover notified me of 3/4 low dollar purchases and canceled before they even notified me. They had my new card in my hand three days later. If you want to call them, it's probably easier than calling your bank. And their people, in my limited experience, have been perfect, understandable English.

"Checkbook"? I'm not familiar with that term? :s0114: I have one of those. I write a check, once, maybe twice a year. And I haven't been in a grocery, or some such, line where someone wrote a check in I don't how many years!

Update: Went to Chase this morning and laid out my case, I'm getting a full refund by tomorrow. They also told me that PP will most likely drop me as a customer, good riddance! I asked how the charge went through 12 hrs after I locked my accounts and was told that PP has my routing # so they can bypass the lock. Thanks for everyone's support, well most everyone...

Glad you were able to recover your funds. Good of you to share your experience, so others can avoid similar situations.
