Measure from the receiver face to the back of the front sight base. You'll have to remove the barrel and all to get that on there. I personally wouldn't bother. I'd buy a carbine length "drop in" and call it good.

No, not at all. I have the same light with the same switch at the same spot on all my rifles. Light placement is a personal decision, so it will take some experimenting to get it where you want it.
