Begging the OP's pardon, a Colt's factory letter on a gun such as this will note date of manufacture, factory features as shipped, and occasionally the destination when shipped.

It is a factory verification of the characteristics of the gun when made, and where it was sent. The letter may support provenance toward reputed previous ownership. A collector would be VERY interested in cross-referencing information in the letter with the characteristics of the gun in hand, and such information would be of little interest to all but a seriously prospective buyer.

Again with apologies to the OP, the offering of a factory letter with the gun most usually indicates all features extant are factory original.
