Brand new, never been removed from box, rarely seen, very early production 2nd Generation Colt 1851 Navy revolver.
This revolver is 36 cal. with a 7 1/2" octagon barrel, case-hardened frame, loading lever, plunger, and hammer, silver plated back-strap and square-back trigger guard. Also has one-piece walnut grips, and blued barrel and cylinder with engraved naval battle scene.
This is the most desirable variant in the very early box, I am sure that many of you have seen these pistols in the later production big black boxes at gun shows but this predates that and is an extremely sought after early production example. These early examples with the small early box are very tough to locate.
Serial number 5453 which indicates 1971 production. Model number C1121. This gun also has the letter "O" underneath the four digit serial number. Dennis Russell (Percussion Colt Revolvers - The Second Generation author) believes the most logical reason for this letter "O" is to differentiate the 2nd Gens from originals. The 2nd Gen 1851 Navies have serial numbers on the arbor & loading lever, as well as on barrel, frame, cylinder, back strap, trigger guard and wedge.
