The dishwasher is actually a great way to clean hard to clean firearms, like AR lowers. The heat will dry the firearm by evaporation, even without using the dry cycle. By using the dry cycle you are doubly protected.

Dishwasher detergent is basically TSP with surfactant and anti-spotting additives. This is a great grease / oil cutter that rinses fully away leaving no residues.

I spray down the parts with non-toxic solvent prior.to leaving the field, letting the parts soak. Then pop them in the DW once home. I can easily fit 4 ARs in my washer by twist tieing the muzzle up against the bottom of the top rack. BCG, charging handles and the bolt go in the silverware basket.

The does result in bone-dry metal, so you will need to oil iron based metals to prevent rust unless you have a well controlled storage environment.

Something like a gunsafe with a properly sized heating rod will work, even in the high humidity environments we find in the Pacific Northwest.

I know this is not for everyone, but how else can you clean 4 filthy ARs in about 15 minutes total time?

PS: While there will be no residues left in the DW I still run a full sanitize cycle with detergent after. Just to be on the safe side and to keep my wife from objecting!

If you look at the safety sheets for Gun Scrubber and NON-chlorinated brake cleaner you will see they are virtually the same thing.

On the gun or while cleaning?

I tired it once, but found I had some spare parts after reassembly. Ever since I've opted to wait until after before partaking.:D

Short answer: Yes, but to be aware it doesn't do real well with grease (if present).👍
However, it is far better to have parts left over than to run short.

I use alcohol on all my handguns. It takes a little scrubbing sometimes for the pistols that get shot a lot but it's better than dealing with the fallout from using Hoppe's in the basement. My wife has a nose like a whitetail deer! I liked to use carb cleaner years ago until I melted a pair of plastic grips that were irreplaceable (nearly).
