Wanting to get CHL for a family member. Need recommendations for a class in the Portland area. Especially if it's 3 state CHL!
Anyone have a recommendation?

Thanks ahead of time.
There's no "3 state CHL"
For this area people will sometimes get OR and WA and sometimes Utah or Arizona.
OR and WA separately because they don't "reciprocate" and then Utah or Arizona because they both support wide reciprocation for travelers.

I used Shaun Curtain for OR and Utah - WA I got on my own (no class needed).
It was $80 - he may be higher now.

If I was to do it over, I would have done the online OR class and the WA CPL was easy because no class required.
This is the lowest cost way of doing OR and WA
(I haven't utilized my Utah CHL)

Oregon
And then go to your preferred Sheriff's Office in Oregon
I used Multnomah County

Washington
Again, go to your preferred Sheriff's Office in Washington
I used Clark County

Shaun is a really great instructor. I teach multi-state concealed carry out on the coast, but for someone in the Portland area I highly recommend Shaun.

The fact that one needs to pay for "training" to exercise an enumerated right is a gross infringement
I would hope you don't! You didn't when I got my permit. I think it was $35.00 or so for an hour class held in a meeting room at Fisherman's Marine & Outdoor. It was something like 25 people there.

Oregon now requires a certificate showing you completed an approved class.
The lowest cost way is the approved on line class that I posted above for $15.

Currently WA does not require a class for their CPL.

It did back then too. I guess we should consider ourselves lucky, for now, that this state doesn't require a $200.00 class!

I make a living offering CHL training and I am 100% against there being a legal requirement to take a class. I think that you have a moral obligation to know how to properly use a gun if you are going to carry one. But I do not believe that the government has any business saying that you have to take a class to exercise your constitutional right.

Public Safety Training Center at Clackmas, OR.
$49 for OR CHL, $79 for Utah/OR CHL. Cheap and classes every month.

Shaun Curtain
$100 for Utah/Arizona and Oregon
Photo/fingerprints/application forms included

Lowest cost way of doing Oregon only is:
$15 (on line)

I would make sure that if applying for Arizona or Utah that
photo/fingerprints/application forms are included with the class.
A friend used Legal Heat and they did not supply these items.
However, they did supply the premium price.
My friend had to source his passport type photos and fingerprints
from a 3rd party at additional cost and inconvenience.

SafeFire in Camas ... when you leave their course you have everything you need to apply to Oregon and Utah (addresses, forms, fingerprints, photos etc.)

If you want to apply to Arizona, Florida or another state give the instructor a call, they can usually meet that application need as well, for no extra charge.
