That is a concept that has been discussed for decades. In the developed countries, military spending is steered to the Military-Industrial Complex, and cheap, economical, logical alternatives are ignored.
 
Imagine the value of everything on a container ship. It would be worth defending. Now imagine a shooting war with swarms of missiles or drones coming at your convoy. Having more detection capability and missiles to add to the "basket" is never a bad thing. We should be doing the same.
 
Didnt the British do something very similar with their Q-Ships, way back in WW1?

Heavily armed merchantmen ships with concealed weapons and stuff to lure U-boats into attacking them and then ambush the said submarines.....
 
A container ship has a large, flat deck area. That provides a spot to put lots and lots of vertical launch pods. Being so large, it also takes a big punch to sink. Even more punch if it is modified into numerous watertight sections to control flooding. The only drawback is that they are not very fast.

Considering Venezuela hasn't paid its debt owed to Exxon-Mobil and ConocoPhillips, as judged by international Courts of law, and considering that there are economic sanctions against Venezuela... Eh.......
