Budget single stack 9 or .40

Generally I stick with 9, but since I bought a few hundred rounds of speer gold dot .40, I'm keeping an open mind.

short list is:
Mossberg mc1
Shield 9 or 40
Taurus G2S

trying to keep it below 450, and new or refurbished used, unless purchased from a well regarded NWFA member. So glocks are mostly out. Would otherwise end up with a g36 or 43. Would consider Springfield xds single stacks, but don't want Springfield to get any of my money. Also open to lower cost, but reliable revolvers in .357.
Any thoughts?

I'd say shield. it has plenty of support/aftermarket and a proven record. I recently got a Shield 2.0 40 that I put a TLR6 on and plan to use for the hotter days carry.

Haven't seen a Mossberg MC1 in the wild tbh but I hear they are gaining traction.

I have yet to read anything overtly negative. They also will run glock 43 mags, as I understand it.

I have a 9mm version that I carried until I got a 365
I found that Shield to be accurate with a good trigger and good ergonomics.

If you can find a used members XDs i'd say why not. It can be fitted with a PL mini 2. Its almost same in line stacked up next to a Shield.

I have both and find them both to be unique enough to use regularly.

The meat of the question is which single stack to choose?
The only thing holding me back on the MC1 is the unorthodox takedown method.

Budget single stack... how low of a budget? And an excuse to get it, so you dont have to worry about getting it back fro the police... Hi Point Hehehehhe. Although Ruger have decent standard capacity/double stack handguns. (I own a P85 series )

I liked the Shield I used to have. Also love the .380 EZ I have. You may want to take a look at the 9mm EZ. Just a little larger and easier to shoot while still being easy to conceal.

Trying to stay below 450, and trying to buy new. I actually regret getting rid of my hipoints. They run, no matter what. Great customer service and warranty. Amazing cache pistols if you can't afford glocks.

I was looking at an ec9. Ruger has great CS, but the last of their pistols I bought came shipped without retention pins, so the action was just floating in the frame. A little hesitant on their new semi's at this point.

Since you want to buy new and already prefer 9, I would pick up a Shield in 9 and sell/trade the .40 gold dots for some 9. I would get a Shield of those three regardless of chambering.

If I was ME in your situation, I'd buy a used Sig P239 in .40 for $400 and feel pumped about it. But I prefer .40 over 9, love Sigs, and almost always buy used — and it's a great time to be a used .40 buyer.

Just bought a sig p226 in .40. That's why the volume of .40. Just keeping an open mind. Have seen refurbished turn in .40 shields for 280. Just wondering the experience of others.

I liked my 40 shield and am kind of looking for another. I want to fondle a 2.0 with out the laser grips.

I bought a Shield a couple years ago, was really torn between 9 and .40. I ended up buying the 9mm. A co-worker bought the identical gun in .40. I shot them both side by side, and the .40 definitely had noticeably more snap. I wouldn't have minded it, but was glad I bought the 9mm for whenever my wife might shoot it. She would not have liked the recoil of the .40 S&W.

I've played with all 3 calibers on the shield 9/40/45.

For simplicity I'd say go with 9mm for a variety of reasons.
For fun try to master 40, i had the 1.0 in 40 originally and didn't mind it too much.
Surprisingly the 45 shield is pretty tame and fairly accurate for a SS 45 on a 1" body, kick wasn't even that bad.

I have a preference for 40 and factory defense loads like Gold dots/HST/V crowns. 9mm would be light on the hip and allow for easier control.

The gf's shield already has 1k thru it and still handles well. Still trying to figure out how she shot a pattern that resembled the Chrysler logo center of target.
