I suspect most of the reports of hate and villification come from sources who want to spin anything they can into another lame appendage of their own victimization narrative.

Something else to consider. Even if the entire population of a town like Albany, Oregon(50k ish) voted solidly red, it won't influence Oregon's Electoral College votes as much, because of Portland Metro area which at last count, accounted for about 50% of Oregon's population

Then it'd be much closer to the Statewide popular vote percentages.

Otherwise, if your Party doesn't get a majority in pop vote, it gets nothing at all in a Winner Takes All electoral vote.
