Good guy to have around here. @bolus can give a perspective that is hard to come by in this mess. You're a gem Dude!

I quit reading the other thread because catching up in the morning with 300 +/- posts in between is too much chatter to read.

Honestly, I think the real metric is that our hospitals haven't been overrun yet, no hospitalizations. Once that starts to happen, our numbers are definitely getting up there.

Not sure if I mentioned this already. Most of my career was in the hospital as a implant rep. There was a rep at the hospital here in Boise this week to see a patient with a medical device needing looked at. Patient had Covid. Said the patient looked like death. Rep asked the charge nurse how many on the floor had Covid. Her response was ALL but 2. That's one floor at one hospital.

Our island civil defense says that there are only 9 known active cases, who knows?

Have you noticed that the state website lists a different number of covid positive patients for Hawaii county than the county website itself? What a huge joke of a Health Department. How about those 3 homeless covid positive patients some other state just put on a plane here?

The turn around for testing at Queens hospital is 14 days. You are either dead or have spread it to all your family by then.

Worse is the amount of healthcare services that are closed because of this. Outpatient xray in Kohala closed completely, the hospital is only doing emergency imaging. Several specialist clinics have completely closed. I got a guy with a bone infection (this typically needs at least 6 weeks of IV antibiotics). The Infectious disease clinic is completely closed in Honolulu and the Home Health nursing service who would manage his IV does not have enough PPE. Might as well go back to Civil War era medicine and amputate his arm with a bone saw.

Up side is we have people donating masks and other protective equipment to us (100% more help from patients than the department of health). Neighbor just brought over a box of R95's this morning for me.

At very least they shut down the legislature before they could pass the ammo restriction bill.

We had a patient positive for covid today in honokaa connected to that outbreak at the kona McDonalds :(
(for others, that's a 80 min drive between the two areas)
So you're the cause of that patient! Was he related to an employee, or did he get it from the food handling/not social distancing/money?

I suspect we're going to see a lot more from that cluster.

I dont know the details but had contact down at the McDonalds.

There is a study in pre-publication now showing rates of people with positive antibodies to covid in Santa clara county CA at 2-5%. So if that holds true here we could have about 9000 positive (probably less since we are not densely populated) But that also means up to 50,000 on Oahu have had it.

Until we start testing more we will have no idea if social distancing worked. But best to assume that it is out there circulating in Kona and Hilo at least.

Here's a question, is it possible to distinguish antibodies from the various types of the Covid virus?
