I honestly like them all and each era has its own unique charm. I was torn between the 1930s because so many classics started then, but the 1980s was a golden era for horror, both in print and on screen. I had to go with the 1930s, because Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, the sequels they spawned, et al.

Honorable mention to the 1970s, because Dawn of the Dead defined the modern zombie genre. Well, that and @Andy54Hawken's compelling Ingrid Pitt argument. :D
