I just saw a recent poll that 55% of people who identify as "liberal" think it's acceptable to kill Trump and Musk.
That mindset is created by social media. There's no way this would happen 20 years ago.

All online discussion sites are seriously slanted and become an echo chamber developed by those who moderate. Probably by far the worst example is Reddit. They permanently insta-ban people who simply disagree with the allowed sentiment. It's wild, I'm not kidding, and Google for some reason leans heavily on Reddit for search results, so Reddit gets a lot of exposure. Other platforms at least try to follow some semblance of "rules" and bias occurs in interpretation of the rules, but some popular platforms are quite blatant.

Even on X, which has become quite balanced, there's so much garbage being posted even from the typically tamped-down conservative voices which are now allowed, many of those posts are totally wrong from the side I tend to agree with.

Hate to say it, I think social media needs to be shut down. Moderating it inevitably brings in bias from one side or another and stokes extremism.

This is not a free speech issue. We have free speech without social media, we are free to speak whatever we want in real life but we have to face consequences, like getting punched in the mouth. Social media removes the mouth punching and allows wild stuff to be said. Get rid of it.

Subject specific forums are fine, we join them to discuss and share about the subject, if we get out of line the rules are clear.

That's to be expected from people that believe it's alright to cut the breast tissue from a 15 YO girl and give pills to a 13 YO boy to keep his testicles from developing, because they think they are the opposite gender.

That poll and the coverage of it are total garbage. The reality of the poll is that only around 5% held that view and they only got the 55% figure by excluding those people that said it was "completely unjustified" Go to the green text at bottom of page 2 / top of page 3 and the graph at the top of page 3
