First they disarm their citizenry, now they've banned encryption. Sucks to be an Australian these days.

Let's pray America never goes down this path.

Australia Bans Encryption! – X2X Technology, Powered by CRIP.TO – Medium

We have been headed down that path for a long time and will continue to do so until and unless we stop it. I wouldn't bet that a commercial encryption product didn't include an access mechanism for LE and various government agencies. If I went encryption I'd go with an open source product.

What a load of crapola. Thought totally unsurprising considering the socialistic nonsense in that country.

Most of my family is in the United States and Argentina, at the present. But we have one much loved cousin in Oz, who is a wonderful, freedom-minded friend. Though it has been a while since we've talked, here's wishing her well. But, I digress.

How does that go again... After you outlaw guns then only the outlaws will have guns! (Substitute encryption for guns).

I root all my cell phones to get rid of all the bloatware. If I want to encrypt my rooted smart phone I don't see how any government is going to do much to stop me? Is encrypting your cell phone going to be a misdemeanor or a felony?

I agree. All of my encryption tools are open source: PGP, Signal, OpenVPN, VeraCrypt, etc. Unfortunately, encryption is an absolute must when communicating electronically these days. I encourage everyone to have it available in their toolbox.

It's not just the second amendment that's under attack in the US. It's the fourth amendment as well.

They don't need to ban encryption here. The NSA has been recording our stuff for at least 20 years. The 4th Amendment has been gutted.
