I've always assumed that any form of physical or electronic communication available to me, even if "encrypted", is monitored actively or passively.

As some of you know, that doesn't mean I don't run my mouth after a few beers.

Regardless, there's just a lot of things I don't talk about online or over the phone. I ain't no Timmy McVeigh or Teddy K, but I'll be damned if some room temperature IQ fed with a quota to meet twists my words and sends the goons to the front door over some BS.

I know it was 25 years ago, but The Patriot Act is still a thing and why bother with a search warrant when for just $5.00 a month you can get full access

Surveillance and wiretapping

  • Allows domestic and international wiretapping
  • Allows "sneak and peak" searches
  • Allows roving wiretaps that can follow a person anywhere they go
  • Allows the government to access electronic communications

Hate to tell you (not really), but NSA out of Ft. Meade, MD was listening in on ALL electronic communications back in '86 when I was briefly stationed there. You should have seen (at the time) the massive dome shield around whatever it was they had up on the roof.

I've met a few folks over the years that like you were in a position to know / see things and they were of the opinion that a bunch of stuff in The Patriot Act was included to cover things the gov was already doing 'off the books' and not for anything new

I don't believe a single word that guy says. He has lied in numerous videos in the past. I'm not saying atf isn't watching websites. I would assume they do. But that guy has ZERO credibility. He is a lying piece of bubblegum. I would say he is one of the three worst sources of info on YouTube. And that's saying something. He is a liar. He makes up bubblegum to generate views which makes him $. Can't believe GOA still has their name attached to him.

Yes - agreed - I've state such a number of times.

However, there is a difference between what the NSA collects, analyzes and specifically what they share with other agencies, and what a surveillance program by the ATF would collect. The NSA doesn't collect/analyze/collate and report to the ATF or the FBI, data on what is said on gun forums/etc.

Unless you are on a specific interest list (say, you are, or talk to someone like OBL or other terrorist) or the content is specific at that level, at most, they might keep some metadata and not the content - if that.

OTOH - the ATF could have some personnel who spend time surfing Reddit and the more active social media like NWFA - although I doubt they could/would know what goes on in DMs without having a warrant.

Just the same, I more or less assume that the gov has a list most of the firearms I own - at least those where an FFL was involved (e.g., since 2015 in Oregon - which is quite a few), possibly also my ammo purchases (although I think that would take a warrant).

I think the difference is where I would be on a list of interest with them.

I know from when I worked in public accounting that the IRS often relied on tips, usually from disgruntled employees and/or ex-spouses.

There are anti-gun and other left-wing "activists" that lurk here from time to time. If you do a little digging on the local subreddits you'll see this is really not a secret. Many years ago one of them doxed me after a post I made on the Statesman Journal. This included references to my NWFA activity and posts. It's not hard to imagine some of these jerks may be making anonymous reports to various letter agencies.

Assume someone is watching here, always.

If it makes you feel any better, I didn't click… :D
