problem is not everyone is mentally and physically equipped to be an armed. a swag by me would be around 80% or more should not be armed.
How many times have we all said we're NOT talking about "forcing guns on everybody," but only ALLOWING those who have equipment and creds the CHOICE to do so, possibly with requirement of a training program?

Let me re-apply what you're saying: "80% or more of the proles should not be armed, so NOBODY should carry a weapon."

I am PRO-CHOICE when it comes to arming teachers, administrators, and CCL holders in schools. :D

Which brings up the question - how many of these people worrying about kids being killed are pro-abortion?

When I was a kid, I would've have taken a MAYBE kill by a teacher over a DEFINITE by a perp EVERY time. Then again, a guy I knew who ended up being one of my frat brothers was on the Columbine scumbags' Kill List and he believes only lived because of moving back here before it went down, so that may have colored my perspective...

well i guess you can try that type of approach but what i was saying is you have to find not only the 20% but those that are willing to engage. just having the want and the training doesn't mean that you are willing to do what needs to be done. the on site guard and the 4 behind the car. they have the training but they didn't have the will.

When the threat comes to you, you don't have a choice to not engage. They have made that choice for you, because running away or hiding hasn't worked.

Respectfully ...

Yep ... the premise that a death happens every so many seconds is faulty. Shame on them. The situations are always dynamic and will differ greatly. The bottom line is that if you have a shooter inside a school you have already lost everything. Or the potential.

Solutions? Well, how about fewer crazy people? Good luck with that. Ban the guns? Nope. Good luck with that. You could never ban them all. Then the crazies will just use a good hunting bow with broad heads. About the only solution is to harden up the target.

Train teachers. Make it a part of their teaching credentials. Harden the schools. Fences. Choke points with metal detectors. Probably a pat down. Yes this sound horrible. It is. We can not stop this sort of killing in a free society. Evil intent will always find a way in.

Create a safe learning environment for the students and the place is packing and ready for whatever? This might also mean training and packing some students? Possibly. Certainly at the college level. Grade schools? I do not see any way that would work 100%.

there are very few real rambo, bourne etc etc etc out there. when it isn't a movie or a video scenario it is a whole new game and most don't have it and nobody really knows until they are in the situation. the army has to basically brainwash recruits to get the fight not flight out. your expecting alot from people. if i thought arming teachers would work i would be on the front lines to have it implemented but all i am seeing is both side talk rhetoric not actual facts or willingness to come up with actual solutions.

Again, nobody's talking about FORCING that responsibility on anybody. We're only talking about for individuals who ALREADY have CCW's a CHOICE, maybe combat veterans like @AndyinEverson going to head-of-line--and in my case, proposing something similar to the FFDO program for pilots, which people just like you spewed the exact same talking-points to oppose almost twenty years ago.

If I thought YOU were actually interested in solutions, I might consider continuing this discussion, but as it stands we're done here. Welcome to the Ignore List, troll.

jvp assumes that an armed person who is cornered will submit to death, rather than fight. This flies in the face of people like the teacher in Florida that died shielding his students from the gunfire with his body.

A coward wants all others to be cowards so he won't be called out.

ah internet bully. get real unless YOU yes YOU have been in the situation your just running your gums or fingers in this case. everybody's a tough guy behind a keyboard

yes THE teacher but i bet he had no idea he was that one. notice there were no other coaches/macho teachers doing anything.

I have been threatened with a firearm face-to-face. Have you? And you call me a bully from the safety of your keyboard.

And you top it off by disrespecting the man who gave his life to protect his students.

I see no point in responding to you any more.

image not an actual video

I'm sure they meant .223, probably fat fingered the text....

But here is the actual ballistics test/demonstration video. Considering what they're unloading on that shelter, with 2 guys inside, I'm pretty impressed. I would have to imagine that in many school districts you could do a one-time GoFundMe type campaign to buy a bunch of these shelters. It would really be just a one-time cost and would be a great step toward safer schools.
