In short, it makes a carbine style buffer system work more like a rifle buffer system. Carbine are pretty violent in operation, the A5 smooths it out, increases weapon life, helps prevent bolt bounce and broadens the range of operation. Here is a thread I started on it a while back. BCM has since come out with their own rendition. I use it on all my personal builds.
