I noticed Heretic has not commented.

Then I will.
Not dial-up, but I still use AOL. I also have comcast and gmail, which I use neither, ever.
I can use anything I want, and AOL is still the easiest.
I s'pose folks read on the internet that AOL is for the dinosaurs, but I also suspect folks just repeat what they read on the internet, not really having any experience.

Not much different than internet gun lore.:D

AOL'ers have a well earned reputation. Be proud of the legacy you are a part of.

I have had the same AOL email since 2000. I still go once in a while to the main page to read stories. It just works why change it. It hasn't been dial up for over 20 years and its been free almost that long as well.
I got Gmail as well all that I ever see on it is spam and Quora

Wow I got a lot of free CDs with AOL software on decades ago now. Never used AOL. I was using Linux box that had two network cards an on external US Robotics 56000 modem decades ago now. I was using the Linux box as firewall box. I had a simple script that if Linux box detected and external IP address outside our internal IP address it would dial the modem to our ISP.

Work well until we got cable modem that had a DOCSIS 1.1 on it. Used for many years until Comcast was messing with their network and had to up to DOCSIS 2.1 for to stay connected for more than 24 hours. Then later I upgraded again to DOCSIS 3.1.

My college roommate at one point had the email address "[email protected]".

Not Brian398181793828- just Brian.

Pretty wild to think we were right at the start of this crazy fad called the 'world wide web'. . .

Fun fact- he is now a college professor in computer science lol!

Its not the e-mail that shocks me, its that their dial up service still existed that shocked me. I use a couple e-mail accounts that were opened LONG ago in the days of dial up and have never changed. Just because I could see a reason to bother but the dial up service? That went by the side decades ago. Had no idea there was even still such a thing as dial up offered by anyone.

Well there are a lot of places including Oregon with no cell service or Streaming services but they still have land lines. Sure now there's stuff like Starlink.
