Cleaned up and ready...last one I attended was 1997

Should be fun...even convinced my wife to go!

My kids will be there - my son-in-law inherited a Ghia from his father so now he is into VWs.

Back in the 70s, hen I was young, I worked as a grease monkey for German Motors in Salem - back when the owners were immigrants from Germany. Did a little brake work, pulled engines to steam clean for rebuilding, the dirty grunt work. Learned a little about airhead boxer engines and mechanics in general.

How was it? A few of my friends were there racing and hanging out.
It was a blast....HUGE event. I hadn't been in almost 30 years, was glad I went. Met some cool new people and ran into a bunch of old friends ( some who I didnt even know were into VWs!)
My wife even had a great time, we just picked up an '81 Cabriolet for her ( bucket list/high school dream car ) so she was chattin up other owners to learn more about her new car :D. She is all about going to shows now ( which only took 25 years! )

Wow! 2 notchbacks and a SP2. Any type 3 Ghias? Seems like an awesome show.
No type 3s :(
There were 5 Notchbacks alltogether, most I had seen together in years!
My biggest VW regret was not having $ on hand for a '65 1500s Notch...$1500 in 1994...would easily be a $30k car today.....

I had a pretty pimped out 64 bug back in the 90's. I left it with my FIL in Lincoln City while I was stationed in Alaska and it got stolen. I found the stripped out carcass up on a old logging road. Sad day. I've always wanted another one, just haven't been in a position where I could store it properly.

My 1st car was a '73 Super, followed by a '74 Standard....always had a soft spot for them. We had a '64 Nova 4 door for about 6 years as a "family fun car", wife didnt like driving it and it sat more than it didnt, so decided to sell it. Ended up trading it straight across for my '70, worked out well, Ive driven it more in the last year and a half than I did the Nova in 6.

Only pic I have of the '74...

Hundreds of VWs and a hundred horsepower to go around.

They don't measure bugs in miles per hour but in feet per day

There's a reason VWs were never ambulances.... All their patients would have been DOA

Glad I didn't have to drive in the area that day. I once got stuck behind a stupid caravan of VW buses going over the Santiam Pass, was a really long drive as I was about the 120th car in line they were holding up. I remember when the bug was reintroduced and seeing billboards showing a pic of it with the caption "0-60 MPH, yes!" I thought that was the funniest thing.

At the last show I went to 15 years ago, there was a factory prototype Super Beetle (1 of 4) with a 914-6 set up that VW was going to attempt to market but stopped short. I wrenched on air cooled 45 years and had dozens of bugs, 2 ovals, 4 split window buses (1 Westy). 5 Bay window (4 Westys) Built the first Baja (of 3) in Alameda County. The last Baja was a wide eyed '68 sunroof, disc front, type 3 from the tranny back. Have 4 stoker motors worth of parts to assemble. Putting the biggest in my '71 bug. PAX
