I think I'd just hang myself when I saw the figuresPretty sure i got 12 years in??
Definitely over a Dime on the alcohol free clock. I use every penny I formerly drank on guns , ammo and stabby things.
Hey OP , put your drinkin money in a jar every day and see what's piled up by spring. You might be pleasantly surprised at the amount.

Since you quit at 13, I'm guessing stiffening socks took most of your extra time?I quit drinking at 13. It's been the second best decision of my life. After a while you won't miss it. You'll find another habit to fill the void, don't worry.
I look at every label. If I see HFCS I don't buy it.Along with alcohol banish high fructose corn syrup. HFCS is the leading cause of liver cirhosis with alcohol as number 2. It's chemically just as hard as alcohol to process and it's in everything. Dr. Sten Ekberg has some very good Youtube videos on liver health that are well worth the watch.
That has been my experience as well. A few years back an older buddy of mine called and asked what I was doing. I told him I was eating lunch. He wondered if I might have time to drive down to the Melrose Unit where I'd hung a treestand for him and track down the buck he'd just put an arrow through and drag it to the car for him. I drove the 45 minutes down there, followed the blood trail to his buck, helped him field dress it, then drug it about 500 yards to the nearest road for him and loaded it into his vehicle. I followed him home and hung the deer in his garage and said, "I suppose you want me to skin it for you." He replied, "I wouldn't stop you." Due to health reasons, my friend has given up alcohol. So, he didn't even have a beer to offer me for all of my hard work. Instead, he gave me something called (IIRC) Klausthaler. It was supposed to be NA beer, but it was truly awful. I would rather have had a Pepsi or Mountain Dew instead. It has been awhile since I have tried a NA beer....but the few that I did try...tasted a lot like anything but beer.
Had a buddy tell me the easiest thing in the world was to quit smoking. He'd done it lots of times.I can quit anytime I want. To prove it, I quit 4 times last week
I definitely don't drink to get drunk or use it as an escape but by most metrics I'm sure I'm considered an "alcoholic" 3-5 drinks per night... ish when I drink, some nights I wont a drink at all, just depends on the evening.
I enjoy the mixing process, coming up with new creations and the overall experience of creating a drink then enjoying the result. I keep a fully stocked bar but honestly have never felt like I "needed" a drink.

When all the high fructose corn syrup blaming came around I really tried to eliminate it from my diet and ended up replacing it with good old fashioned "healthy" beet/cane sugar products. Then I read that HFCS isn't really any worse than table sugar:I look at every label. If I see HFCS I don't buy it.
All sugar beyond trace amounts is bad for you along with the rest of our high carb diet. HCFS in particular beats the crap out of your liver as it reduces it to glucose. One of Dr. Ekberg's videos breaks down the chemistry and the resulting compounds that the liver then has to neutralize as they are basically poisons. It's truly nasty stuff. When all the high fructose corn syrup blaming came around I really tried to eliminate it from my diet and ended up replacing it with good old fashioned "healthy" beet/cane sugar products. Then I read that HFCS isn't really any worse than table sugar:
"High-fructose corn syrup isn't necessarily worse for us than table sugar, but there is just too much of it in our food supply, says Harvard School of Public Health nutrition expert Frank Hu.
In an April 30, 2012 Q & A with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Hu, professor of nutrition and epidemiology, noted that the two sweeteners are not so different chemically. High-fructose corn syrup, which comes from corn, is roughly 55 percent fructose and 40 percent glucose, plus other minor sugars and other ingredients. Table sugar, called sucrose, is made from sugar cane or beets and is 50 percent glucose and 50 percent fructose. While high-fructose corn syrup often gets blamed for the nation's obesity epidemic, "we should worry about sugar in general," Hu said.
But "because it's cheap, consumption of high-fructose corn syrup has gone up so much in recent decades and has become one of the main sources of calories in our diet," Hu said."

So now I am making a concerted effort to cut down on sugar in general... which isn't easy for me! I have also been making a concerted effort to cut back on processed food. I am a decent cook and all those processed foods taste a lot better when I cook them myself from scratch. It is a lot more work and more time consuming to cook everything myself rather that toss a pre-prepared dish in the microwave but I have done a pretty good job of cooking at least the majority of my food.
It kind of makes me wonder what it was like 200 years ago when sugar was an occasional treat instead of a major portion of the average persons diet.
Alcohol consumption took care of itself for me. My gf of 15 years was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer so she can't drink anymore while she is being treated. This made it very easy for me not to drink anymore since most of my drinking was red wine with dinner with my gf.
