I installed a set of Ameriglo GL-429 sights on my G19 slide and they shoot way low using a dead on or cover up hold. The front sight measures .315" tall, same as the rear sight. I need to figure out what new front sight height to buy... or do I dare file this one down?

Sorry for the poor group, I managed to save this target from the pile... its 10rds casual 2 handed shooting from 10yds cover up hold trying to see if they would group higher. I added measurements to give it scale... I'm guessing I'm about 2.5in low with the cover up hold but I prefer a center mass hold on pistols.

What weight of bullet were you shooting? I have a P365 that shoots to point of aim at 10 yards with 115gr b\ut shoots a couple of inches low with 124 and 147.

"The cover up hold" (CUH)

Thats a great term!

I despise that POI/POA but now I have a way to describe it.

If that target is 3" at 10 yards using the CUH can you see any of the target? Does the CUH completely obscure it? If it is obscured you can't really be sure of where they are going in relation to the center of dot in CUH.

Re-shoot with a 6 o'clock hold, perhaps on a black square for some good repeatable alignment to the square post then hold the sights off to the side of the square at that distance and see if the shots landed in the center of where the Ameriglo front sight dot was when firing.

On one level having POI/POA in the center of the front sight dot makes a lot of sense, but not having the option of precision irritates me.

Both 115gn and 124. Both shoot very low. Ithink that target was with 115 so the 124 at that distance might be negiligably lower.

I cannot see any of the bullseye with the cover up hold. I hate that hold but unfortunately many sights are set for it. I can deal if its zeroed properly but mine is way too low to deal with it so I need a new front sight ( or I will file this one down).
Its just odd how bad its off, everythings properly installed.

IMO i prefer a center mass hold.

Make a cardboard sight and trim it down to get your correct height. then measure. on some rifles the front dovetail let me use a large headed roofing nail as a front sight to get the correct measurement. if you look in a leather supply shop they sell copper rivits that have a large head that might be filed to size to fit your dovetail. Good Luck DR

And this applies to a glock 19 how? o_O

I could be mistaken but if below is what you purchased, then I would think you're going to shoot low.

Optic Compatible Sight Set for Glock®
GL-429 | XL Tall Black serrated .315 FRONT, Flat Black .394 REAR

The set I purchased measure .315" both front and rear.

Their website does say that "hight" is an option but they do not go beyond that other that what is listed in the item description for that model. 🤷‍♂️
