I see Midway has many of the Alliant Reloder line of stick powders back in stock. At $86 the pound. I wonder if they will fly off that shelves at those prices. I'd think at this point, Vihta Vuori would be a better choice at under $50.

Well, I suppose there may a shooter / hunter here and there who has worked up their absolute favorite load with an Alliant stick powder. They might choke out $86 for a single pound. But my guess is there aren't many. I thought IMR stick powders at $60 something a pound were the limit. It's just my opinion, but I don't think the USD has devalued that much at this point to pay $86.

The ones I was after are still not available. I think Alliant should have thought more about the long term picture and kept some availability to the reloaders. Once the Ukraine war is over and things settle down they will find many of us have moved on to other brands with availability.

I recently found a 8# jug of H4831sc for $47 a # and this and some American reloading rl-22 equivalent powder will replace my need for any alliant wants.

RL-22 and 19 are all I need. Can't find them anywhere. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Those two are out of stock at Midway. You might want to push the "notify me" button in case they come up with some but it will be in the $80 something category if they do get it any time soon.

Well, not exactly a 'stick' powder but I have found my 'favorite' .30-30 loads with Alliant Unique.

I'm pretty well 'fixed' with it for now but depending on my shooting 'habits' this could change 'down the road' and I may have to find an alternative for it.

Alliant Unique.
It's an oldie but a goodie. I seem to recall reading somewhere that because it's an older powder, it's more expensive to make than newer ones and they'd like to discontinue it. I don't know anything about chemistry and I wonder how one powder that is similar at least in appearance to another can cost more to make. But could be.

Cost factors : chemistry, the inefficiencies of the older batch equipment, the actual production process being much less efficient.

I still have a bunch of R-17, R-19 & R-22, as they're for loads that I seldom shoot. IIRC, older Alliant powder series like 17, 19 & 22 have a much higher thermal coefficient.

Many years ago, I used RL-12. But it's been gone for a long time and wasn't replaced by anything in their line.

Some Alliant powders are back a Sportsman's now too. What caught my eye was the #8 jugs of Promo and Unique. Didn't look at the price, although with Halloween approaching, it might be one way to scare people. At least it is out there again.
