So I've searched the Google and can't seem to find a good answer... I have an ak47 that I purchased about 20 years ago. It has a pistol grip, flash hider, and a bayonet. The serial # is <08200. PolyTech Beijing China.... imported by KFS. MODEL AKS-762. I'm just trying to figure out if there is an easy way to know for sure if it post or pre ban without having to pay anyone... ? Any help would be much appreciated.

A clue....
Does it have a REAL bayo lug. One where the bayo can be correctly attached?

Check the bottom of the lug. Has the bottom of the I beam been ground off?

Aloha, Mark

PS.....this is NOT legal advice.

I'm curious as to why you would care of it's a "pre ban".

Pics would help.

Proper bayo lug would indicate pre-ban. 20 years old would indicate you got it during the Clinton ban.

Just curious. Lol I know it doesn't matter since ya know all the bans have been lifted. Talked to an AK guy(lord help me) and he is the one that brought it up and made it sound really important... I plan on adding some photos when I can upload the photos tomorrow.

here, or came as spike bayonets fixed by a hinge mech.

pre-ban,

the AWB of the Clinton era prohibited the importation of foreign made firearms with certain features, your features included. My guess is the value of your AK is worth a lot for this reason. One of the things Ive never understood about the AWB is that since its expired we still cant import "assault" weapons which was the whole point.

That's because they weren't banned under Clinton; rather they were banned under G. H. W. Bush.

Pre bans are worth more because there are some states that only allow pre 89 ban guns. Those guns are at a premium because the market is nationwide.

so essentially the AWB only added additional features to the Bush era import ban?

The Clinton '94 ban was just stupid. The '89 Bush ban is THE ban. All the good stuff we still can't get here in the land of the free.

The Bush ban was by name and feature. Thats where we got the ridiculous 922r stuff that gave use thumbhole stocks and shaved bayonet lugs . Initially there were some guns that got really screwed up especially the ones caught in customs that got renamed with hand engravers on the docks and got ugly thumbholes. Mitchel Yugo imports got butchered. It took a few years to reqroup and for US makers to come up with 922r workaround parts. Literally no one cares about that stuff any more but the 90's were all 922r this and 922r that. No one ever went to jail on a 922r charge. Paper tiger.

Nice Polytech...keep it for sure. Muzzle brake was probably added, I dont beleive the spike bayonet guns were threaded from the factory ( but, the chinese did anything and everything...)

Funny how this slips by us most of the time. Everyone thinks the dimz are the evile gun grabbers because they verbalize it, but it's the repugz who have been the ones who greazed us with ear tickling words and they slowly slipped it in...

Sorry it took so long on the photos. And I am 100% not wanting to sell. :)View attachment 818231View attachment 818232View attachment 818234View attachment 818236
Those were going for $1200 min 20 years ago....now we have folks attempting to convince us their neutered out MAK90 is worth that much as well. If I were you, I would secure that gem as it will only increase in value....kinda like those F/A MP5s going for $3400 back then as well. If only I knew then what I know now.

Pre-ban GSAD spikers are going for around $2500. Not sure what a KFS goes for.

Every one I have seen has been threaded, the most evil set up ever, especially with the pig sticker. I have never seen a brake like that on one though.
