Here in yUK we can get most steel-cased ammo, like you can, and yes, it's pretty cheap[ish] by comparison with brass. I recall that one US brand also makes steel-cased ammunition - Hornady, maybe? Whatever.

What tends to annoy me is watching a guy shooting his brand-new SAKO TRG topped with a S&B PM2 shooting this stuff, and then whinging about how c**ppy it is, only shooting into an 30 - 40mm or so at 100m.

Well, NO ***T, lootenenant.....

Switching to quality ammunition brought him back into the real world with his $10K rifle. With ten shot groups hovering around 15mm.

Armor Piercing (AP) rounds are a different animal.
This thread is about steel case ammo.

The steel used for these cases is supposed to be softer than the steel in your firearm.
I don't use steel cased ammo, but if I needed to save a few bucks I might.
DD, every steel case cartridge I have checked with a magnet at our range stuck the magnet to the bullet. Pretty sure all those "bi-metal" bullets use steel for one the metals. Hence, my desire that my club ban them altogether. If we could trust all our members to only shoot paper with them, it would be okay, but apparently the lure of shooting steel is too tempting for some...

Sorry, didn't read it all.

If you're shooting a semi-auto (even on full semi-auto) you'll be fine. If you're shooting a bolt, the first two are fine, the third shot generates a call to a gunsmith to get the stuck case out of the chamber.

I've done the math.

So basically , and I have noticed this, is it runs dirtier .But if you clean your weapon after every use (as I usually do) it shouldn't be a problem?
I've read and heard from others that it will corrode your barrel. Any truth to that?

That is the old corrosive surplus ammo. Most all new production ammo is non corrosive and should say so on the can or box .
