Plenty of videos explaining how to get started and what to expect shooting your 1st USPSA/IDPA match. Here is a brief one. Obviously this forum is a great resource in itself also. It single handedly got me out to my 1st ever shooting competition (speed steel at TCGC).

Having a fellow member here offer to be my mentor was instrumental in getting me off my butt and out to an actual match! I've had a blast these past eight + years. 😁

Showed up and had a great time! My very first course of fire wasn't great with 4 Mikes but the rest went ok, I think. Lots of good shooters and good people

I think this specific one is annual
I think they still do the once a month benefit matches. I've shot that one a couple of times and hope to shoot it again. Also speed steel. I haven't tried that yet. IMHO shooting sports is way more fun than just standing there punching holes in paper with a bunch of other yahoos on the public range.

I've not shot this so don't know the specifics. But here's my thoughts anyway. There are no levels, shoot, have fun and be safe. That's it. My guess is that there will be a course of fire set up in a pistol bay. One shooter steps into the shooters box and shoots the course. There maybe some reloading and movement but one shooter at a time. Make and show safe then move to the next station.
Yeah man you did great! Hope you had a good time 🤘

1st Sat benefit steel. Currently more action shooting with movement n walls etc, less frequently steel challenge stand n shoot style. But ya never know and we have a new Match Director.

2nd Sat rifle match, generally PRS style with reduced targets at shorter ranges. Rotating format, bolt gun, gas gun, LPVO, .22, subsonic etc. check here:

3rd Sat is IDPA, I run this one at present.

USPSA has returned. Sept match is 5th Saturday. No USPSA in October, I think. Then USPSA will regularly be on 1st Sunday.

Next special match is November 30, 6 shot revolver, probably iron sights only. .32 cal and higher. No rimfire.

Will the womans only matches be coming back? I think Jeana(?) ran them. My wife might want to try that.

I don't know. I think Gina stepped back from all of that some time ago, I have not heard of any other plans, I don't know if she is still a member of the range. Some of the other guys are on the board and might know.

Not sure. I think most of the women that were doing that have been less active in the last few years.

The current crop of shooters is very inclusive and encouraging to all shooters regardless of sex or experience. We need more women coming out to matches to rebuild a women's group. That's probably the best way to network. The benefit matches are generally more of a relaxed entry into shooting matches. I would suggest starting there. Hope to see you guys at the matches!

I'll be range officering during hunter sight in days so will see some board members then and ask them.

She's not really a new shooter but is. She's shot my guns with me for a long time and even has ones of her own. But she recently glomed onto a Springfield SA-35 and is really enjoying it. So she knows about guns and has shot a bunch but now has her own. I get it. I'd shot a bunch of guns in the service but when I got that first Ruger Blackhawk way back then it was mine. Anyway she's taken a lethal lovebirds class at Emerald Empire and has another in a couple weeks but is more comfortable shooting with other lady's. Kind of a refuse to be a victim bonding moment I suppose. She says shes not ready to shoot matches with me and I'm not going to force her. She did say she'd be interested in trying woman only matches. I'm good with that as well.

Thanks I'll tell her about it.
There was a woman shooting today at the .45 match and she seemed to get along with everyone pretty well. She went out of her way to make me feel welcome as the newest shooter, too which was nice. I bet your wife would have a buddy right off the bat...
