Got the rifle barrel and stock in 375 jdj today for my contender. Put it together. Marveled at what a compact light weight rifle it makes! Then the realization hit, "this is really going to hurt". Oh well, brass and bullets are on the way, still shopping for a scope too. I will put up some pics in a day or so.

It'll be OK. Probably won't want to take 100 rounds to to the range, though. I limit myself to about 20 in 444.

FIFY, lol
You guys and all that wrist talk make me cringe. I think the OP has a Contender in the rifle configuration though.

I've got a couple of Contender pistols and multiple barrels. My favorite is the .218 Bee. After reading some really bad things about what the 10" .44 magnum shooting experience has been for folks, I think I'll stick to the lighter calibers. After reading the "Touch of masochism" link above, that .375 JDJ would be a hard pass for me. :s0002:

Actually I do both rifle and pistol now, this is my first rifle setup. I have 22lr and 357 in 10inch and 30-30 in 14 inch.

Hornady load data suggests up to 2000 ft/second with 270 grain bullets out of a 14" barrel. I think you'll be just fine. My .375 Ruger savage 110 pushes 270s to 2700+ and while recoil is stout, it's not painful. My rifle is about 9lbs though all dressed up

I have a 15 INCH 375JDJ ENCORE barrel if anyone has any interest in it.
I also have a 47/70
A 338 Federal
A270 Winchester
And a 30/06.
All 15 inch barrels.
If any one is interested please send me a PM.

I will be listing these at the end of the month.

I have the SSK 14 inch barrel for my Contender. Haven't shot it for a long time but I don't recall it being too punishing. Also have the 338JDJ, 257JDJ and 6mmJDJ #2. Love my Contenders.

Loaded up! Got some PPU bullets 300 grain and some Hornady interlock 300 grain btsp 45 grains of ww748 behind them, ready for elephants and rhinoceros!
Loaded ten of each. Wish I had a chronograph, all of the data I see out there are velocities from a 14" barrel. A 21" barrel should be a bit faster by 200 or 300 fps.
