What's the story on the Magnum 1100's as far as shooting 2 3/4 shells. I know the 11-78 was the improvement, and I think I understood that you had to put some sort of different piston in a Magnum 1100 to shoot standard shells. ?? Any info on that?

I don't know anything about a different piston. The older 1100's had 2 gas ports on the standard 2 3/4, and only one on the 3" magnums. I don't think it would be very hard to modify the magnum by drilling another port to cycle 2 3/4" shells reliably. This 1100 will cycle some 2 3/4" high base rounds, and some heavy game loads. It does not cycle the lightest 2 3/4 target loads, but then again neither does my 11-87 that is rated for 2 3/4.
