Horrible practice. At the time lobotomies were considered mainstream treatment. By the time Mr. Tritz had been lobotomized over 20,000 US citizens had been subjected to the procedure. Even after effective alternative treatments appeared in the mid 50's, lobotomies continued for several years. One of the many reasons I NEVER take what my doctor says for granted.
