1986 Military M1009 CUCV – the military's ¾ ton version of the renowned square-body Chevy Blazer.
You're looking at what may well be your last chance to own the mighty M1009 CUCV. These have gotten very scarce of late, and this one is running strong as my daily driver. I hate to part with it but I have recently acquired a M1165 HMMWV so regrettably this needs to go. Gets better than 17 MPG!
6.2 liter Detroit Diesel (and you need to own one diesel just in case) that's unaffected by EMP, emissions exempt, with torque like a pack of mutant mules, and yet is surprisingly gutless for speed. The 4WD works as it should with more ground clearance underneath than most jeeps, and gov-loc rear axle. TH400 3-speed transmission shifts perfectly.
The functional gun rack is still there behind the driver's seat for your AR15 or shotgun. New AT tires installed about 300 miles ago. Complete repair manuals are free and readily available online. Great potential as an overlander.
Eligible for collector plates so much less expensive than regular registration. Suitable for restoration or just drive it as is. I think a repaint would easily double your investment as the supply of mid 80s vehicles is drying up. Remarkably, parts are still plentiful from aftermarket suppliers as the square-bodies are highly collectable. The body is straight without the usual DRMO forklift damage. Great project for your son or daughter as the body is straight and there's no cancer.
Current milage is just under 140K for the body, and 50K for the drive-train. I was told the Army changed the engine & transmission when the truck had 90K. All mileage numbers are best educated guess, as the military didn't keep records very well.
Also included is a set of studded mud/snow tires on the original military wheels, and a set of better studded snow tires on some crappy chevy wheels. Two full sets of snow chains makes this thing practically unstoppable. Many extra parts like air/fuel/oil filters and a power steering pump, original seats, more than I can remember at the moment, you will probably need an extra truck to take it all.
Known issues:
Windshield is cracked and needs replaced. I'm discounting the price $600 to reflect that.
Heater blower just stopped working. I'm knocking $200 off the price for that.
The interior needs a deep clean.
The factory CARC paint is really showing its age, but is better than any primer as a base for new paint.
Current price is $8,500 unless I find a big can of motivation and fix those things.
Some accessories shown in the photos like the antennas, lights, tent, are not included.
